tinc and routing Cont'd
Hi, What i said above is not true, i didn't realize that the reason the route disappeared was caused by a script that restarts tinc (and also resets the tap device), not by tinc itself. I compiled and installed tinc 0.3 today. It seems to work ok, even on a very slow 486 that caused to crash earlier tinc version. -- Hans Bayle - Tinc: Discussion list about the tinc VPN daemon

trouble routing packets
Hi all :) I have a masqueraded home lan as well as a friend of mine. I have set up two tinc daemons on both masquerading gateways and I have no trouble connecting (it works pretty smooth) and they show up in the syslog as configured after sending an USR1 / USR2 signal to the daemons. The trouble is the routing / firewalling of the packets. Maybe somebody could give me a hand here? :) The

workaround to use tinc as default gateway
I have been delighted by tinc. Building a mesh like I need would have been horrible in OpenVPN. tinc makes it easy. I decided to share a workaround for a problem that's been vexing me. Either I'm being dumb (and can do this better with a hint) or this is something others might need. I've been moving a bunch of services from our university to Amazon (EC2). To do this, I bring

book on tinc
Hi Ivo and Guus, We are writing a book on building VPNs for Linux and a part of it describes tinc. I wanted to make sure that your opinion, as tinc authors and developers, is reflected. First, let me ask a couple of technical questions. 1. If there are two hosts, foo and bar, that are to be connected via tinc, and each host should only have _one_ IP address (i.e. nmask is /32), would the

Tinc on Linux and tap device problem
Hello, I successfully set up a tunnel with tinc using the tun interface. however I need a tap device, because I need to run the OLSR routing protocol on the tunnel and if I use the tun mode OLSR will just skip the interface. (It is a well known thing, I had this issue before also when using OpenVPN in the past). The problem is that I cannot make tinc use a tap device. I created the tap0

patch for tinc-0.3
Hi tinc list members, There were some problems with Ivo's email adresses (both zarq@iname.com and zarq@spark.icicle.dhs.org) so I resent the stuff to the mailling list. ============================================= Hi Ivo, Hier is een oplossing voor een bugje in flush_queue(), en ook wat andere troepjes zoals een tincd scheduler. Dit werkt wat beter, omdat de

Tinc 1.0.26 on Mac OS X
Mike, you can use ifconfig, it should work fine. It can be something like this: #!/bin/sh ifconfig $INTERFACE 172.20.0.1 netmask 255.255.0.0 It no need to add up at the end of ifconfig string. And "ip route" can be skipped too. On Fri, Feb 26, 2016 at 5:23 PM, Mike Purvis <mpurvis at clearpathrobotics.com> wrote: > Hi Maxim, > > > Not much to it: > >

tinc config(?) problems
I'm having a bit of a problem getting tinc up and running between a pair of RedHat (one 6.0, the other 6.1) boxes. It's installed and configured to the point where they can connect, but I'm not seeing any traffic passing between the two systems. System A looks like - tinc.conf: # Sample tinc configuration. # Insert your own ip numbers instead of the placeholders, # and be sure to use

10th anniversary of tinc 1.0
Hello everyone, Today is exactly 10 years ago that tinc 1.0 was released. I would have hoped to celebrate this by releasing 1.0.22 and 1.1pre8 today, but this will instead happen in one week. Tinc 1.1 is close to becoming stable, and I hope to release 1.1.0 before the end of the year. The main features of tinc 1.1 are the improved security over tinc 1.0, and a much nicer interface that makes it

Tinc 1.0.26 on Mac OS X
Ah, fantastic. With the following config I get a usable tap0: $ sudo cat /etc/tinc/robotvpn/tinc.conf Name = elendur Mode = switch AddressFamily = ipv4 Device = /dev/tap0 Compression = 1 ConnectTo = robot_ph_cpe22_04 Still need to figure out the Avahi side of things for name resolution, but thanks all! Tinc config problem
I fairly new to Linux, and I'm trying to set up Tinc on my Linux box. However I got stuck at the following point in the documentation: ".... The actual setup of the ethertap device is quite simple, just repeat after me: ifconfig tap_n_ hw ether fe:fd:00:00:00:00 ... ". Now, this is obviously not what I have to type to the command prompt, although, I'm not ashamed to say,

Questions about multiple Tinc daemons
Hi, I have some questions about running multiple tinc deamons. The docs say you can do it to support separate VPNs, but I don't see any examples. I have been running a single tinc vpn for months with no problems, now I'm trying to add a second separate vpn. I'm running the static tinc version 1.0pre7 (built Apr 9 2002 14:00:34, protocol 14) on Debian potato. I did not want to go
