slow tint when tinting the whole screen
Hi, I'm running ubuntu edgy with compiz, switched from gentoo to ubuntu for faster updates (emerge is way slow with source builds..). So far, I like it. but that is not the issue I'm addressing now. I've noted that with both these machines, when I'm doing something that tints the whole screen to gray (like trying to logout, or using some software that prompts for sudo

Ploting graphics using X tints from a color
Hi, I'm trying to draw a 2D plot using multiple tints of red. The (simplified) setup is the following: || year | x | y || My idea is that each year is plotted with a different tint of red. Older year (lightest) -> Later year (darkest). I've managed to plot this with different scales of grays simply by doing: palette(gray(length(years):0/length(years))) before the plot and for each

RailsCron usage question
I''m yet another person looking to do some background Rails processing. >From post & the wiki, it looks like I should be using RailsCron. So I''m about to start playing. In parallel, I''d like to get some opinions re: database access. I have a table that I''d like to re-fresh periodically in the background. Is it safe, using RailsCron, to be accessing

Problem with VorbisEncoder
Hi All, It would be really helpful for me if you comment on the following. My VorbisEncoder uses libvorbis to encode into the vorbis data. I have followed the call sequence given in libvorbis\examples\encoder_example.c. I am taking a 16bit pcm Stereo wav file and generating an oggvorbis file using libvorbis and libogg. There is lots of noise in the file except music is heard very feable

Histogram Bar Spacing or Border Width
Is there any way to control the spacing between bars in a histogram, or change the border width (I'm assuming the hist() function, though alternatives are welcome)? I'm interested in changing the visual spacing between columns in a plotted histogram. The general effect I'm looking for can be accomplished in barplots using the "width=" parameter, but I have not been able

Dynamic image resizing and caching
I''m working on an image system that does rescaling and effects on demand, rather than on upload. The uploads are stored as master files, and resized images are generated, cached and returned by a controller, using a request similar to this: /images/21/150x100/filename.jpg (where 21 is the image id) I also have various filters implemented, adding the concept of filter sets (which is

fMultivar functions not loading under R-2.7
I submitted this to rmetrics help list as well... I've been using R-2.4 with Rmetrics successfuly for a year or two. I recently moved to Ubuntu Linux 8.04, loaded R via apt-get install R-base etc. etc... then in the R interface i ran install.packages("fMultivar"), chose the CRAN mirror and it loaded fMultivar and all the required dependecies. However, when I try to run the same

ov_clear(&vorbis) segfaults?
Hello all. I'm new to this list. I'm also new to coding with libvorbis and things, so please bear with me. :) I've been having trouble with libvorbisfile. My use of it is fairly simple, but when I try to ov_clear the vorbis file, it segfaults. I can attach or otherwise make availible some demo source code, but for now I'll just pull out relevant lines: //BEGIN PSEUDO CODE
