user-mode tinc?
Is anyone working on a completely user-mode tinc? My
situation is that I have administrative control over part of
my network but I also have nodes that live in virtual machines
and in simple user accounts where I can create TCP
connections and high-port listening sockets all I please, but I don't
have access beyond that, and I would like to
run a user-mode tinc daemon in those accounts to

tinc 1.0pre4 released
Hello everybody,
I have just released tinc 1.0pre4. Changes:
- New authentication protocol (better security, and faster too).
- TCPonly and IndirectData are back (but not fully tested).
- Documentation revised, it's really up to date with the released package now.
- tincd -K now stores public/private keys in PEM format, but keys of 1.0pre3
can still be used.
- Faster and more secure

Tinc config problem
I fairly new to Linux, and I'm trying to set up Tinc on my Linux box. However I got stuck at the following point in the documentation:
"....
The actual setup of the ethertap device is quite simple, just repeat after me:
ifconfig tap_n_ hw ether fe:fd:00:00:00:00
...
".
Now, this is obviously not what I have to type to the command prompt, although, I'm not ashamed to say,

tinc hangs on large quantities of data
I have tinc setup between three machines debian linux 2.2.17, redhat linux
2.2.14-5.0smp, and redhat linux 2.4.2-2.
Everything works unless I try to transfer large amount of data from the
2.4.2-2
machine to either of the others. When I do that connection hangs.
Something
as simple as telneting to that machine from on of the others and typing
'ls -l'
in a large directory like /bin

tap1 problem
Hi Tinc Mailing-Group,
Having set up the kernel correctly, and got tinc running successfully,
I am now trying to get two VPNs running at once. Hence I need to
have two ethertap devices ( /dev/tap0 and /dev/tap1 ).
The first tap0 device was created thus:
mknod -m 600 /dev/tap0 c 36 16
chown 0.0 /dev/tap0
The second tap1 device was created too:
mknod -m 600 /dev/tap1 c 36 17
chown 0.0 /dev/tap1

Using tinc on planetlab
Hello,
Anyone on this list had successfully used tinc on planet lab [0] ?
I'm trying to do it but I get some problems using the tap device
tincd just keeps printing this error:
Error while reading from Linux ethertap device /dev/net/tun: File
descriptor in bad state
I guess the problem is I cannot manage tun/tap devices on the planet
lab nodes even if I am root :(
Look at this:

Setup problems, /dev/net/tun FD in bad state
Hi all, I'm following the manual but I get the below error, and I
believe tinc is clobbering my conf file.
I've never set up VPN before, I'm just trying to connect to my work
network from home. All the following is on my work computer. Thanks in
advance for any help.

1 Server, Multiple Client Setup
Hello,
I have tried for days on end with no success on this, so I thought I would
post it here and see if someone can help me at all.
*Here's the scenario:*
I have 1 PC with a Static IP/Domain (a dyndns.org account -
myserver.homeip.net) connected to a router, which in turn is the gateway to
the internet. It also has a static local IP (192.168.1.2). I will call this

If found that in the downloads(1) page:
September 13, 2009:
Change linker options to produce 64 bit kext bundle for Snow Leopard.
Removing the hardcoded arch from the Makefiles breaks the compilation,
so I eventually picked version 20090905. And it works :)

can't get tinc to compile..
Hi Tinc Mailing Group,
I've been trying for some days now, to get tinc up and running.
Could someone please suggest what I could do to get it working.
I've installed Redhat 6.2 onto a pc, and then installed the
latest 2.2 kernel: 2.2.18 from source code (The usual
make menuconfig ; make dep ; make bzImage , etc). I've followed
the tinc instructions for adding the

I am novice using tinc. I followed step by step the sample reported in

UPnP support in tinc
Hi Guus,
Unfortunately, I often notice that even with the advanced UDP hole
punching mechanisms that tinc uses, I still come across cases on my
network where two nodes behind NATs cannot talk to each other because
one of the nodes is behind a "strict" NAT that won't use consistent
source ports for UDP packets that are sent to different destination
addresses.
More formally, this
