[R] help debugging segfaults
Hi all, Thanks to Prof. Ripley, Prof. Gentleman, and Simon Wood (did I miss anyone?). The problem seemed to have gone away. Everyone suggested using some malloc debugger (such as Electric Fence). All I did was following half of what BDR suggested below, i.e., changing all the S_alloc() calls to Calloc() and Free(). I didn't get to try efence, and the problem seems to have disappeared! As

tinc1.0pre3
I gave tinc1.0pre3 a test after the modifications you have done today. It insists that it is still 1.0pre2 but this is due to the fact the you used "1" as tag for configure.in rather than "CABAL". Anyway - results were not much more successful than yesterday: *** SERVER side log file from startup until sone seconds after connection was established *** Jun 25 21:14:30 lemon

Current Debian unstable has a broken libm?
I made the mistake of upgrading my primary development machine last night... The libc/libm in the current debian appear to be somewhat broken. Compiling with -O2 and linking aginst libc/m 2.1.2 yields a broken executable; it appears that calls to libm (specifically log() and fabs()) with a perfectly valid input argument result in a garbage return. I don't know for certain what part of

Nested AIC
Greetings, I have recently come into some confusion over weather or not AIC results for comparing among models requires that they be nested. Reading Burnham & Anderson (2002) they are explicit that nested models are not required, but other respected statisticians have suggested that nesting is a pre-requisite for comparison. Could anyone who feels strongly regarding either position

barrier and commit options?
Hello, On my home server (Debian etch, custom 2.6.28.2 kernel), I am using ext3 for both root and /home filesystems, with barriers enabled to prevent corruption caused by my PATA disk write cache. Looking for a better performance, I have also set the commit=nr option as described in linux-2.6.28.2/Documentation/filesystems/ext3.txt, so that I now have: niko at petole:~$ mount -t ext3

Dynamic forking in Win32
I created an application that uses dynamic forking and it works perfect in windows, but fails in wine. Is this a bug or is this feature disabled in Wine? I don't have wine myself but someone we have testing the app for us does. It's difficult to debug over the net so I was hoping for some help here... After adding some debug info we've traced a few failure points to a call to

tinc + OpenSSL
Hello, I just want to ask if it has been considered to use OpenSSL for the encryption stuff. I guess they've spent quite some time on the subject and have the cipher routines both debugged and optimized. I know that some of the current cipher code was taken from SSLeay but since OpenSSL is de facto SSLeay successor, it might give tinc more flexibility and allow the user to choose

Is there a bug in qr(..,LAPACK=T)
The following snippet suggests that there is either a bug in qr(,LAPACK=T), or some bug in my understanding. Note that the detected rank is correct (= 2) using the default LINPACK qr, but incorrect (=3) using LAPACK. This is running on Linux Redhat 9.0, using the lapack library that comes with the Redhat distribution. I'm running R 1.7.1 compiled from the source. If the bug is in my
