Accessing NTFS on host from XP/Win7 VM
Greetings, I have installed Centos 6.3 recently on bare metal (as dual boot with win 7) and want to access the existing NTFS through XP Guest. SELinux is enforcing and VM network is NAT. Google confused me more that educating me -- maybe I could not cobble up the right phrase. Any help appreciated. TIA It is my only system at home. -- Regards, Rajagopal

VM fails to start on host bootup, but starts fine manually. Why?
I have 5 VMs on my host. The first four are setup to start on boot. But only the first three end up running. The fourth has to be started manually. "Start virtual machine on host bootup" is checked on all four VMs but the fourth VM does not get started on host bootup. After the host boots up, the VM is "Shutdown" state. If I go into "virt-manager" and click

Using STP in kvm bridges
Hi all, Reading docs about using bridges in a KVM environment, I have a doubt about activating STP or not in a KVM host. What advantages and disadvantages have?? If I will want to install some kvm guests that use multicast address for certain services, is it recommended to enable STP? Thanks.

OT: adding a wifi adapter to openvswitch
Hi all, Finally, I have installed openvswitch from source to two CentOS hosts: one 6.x and other 7.x. I will do some tests using openvswitch bridges to my KVM machines. One of these tests is to add a wlan0 adapter from comandline but only when this wlan0 is associated with a ssid without assign an IP. Is this posible? Do I nees to add some ebtables like, for example, Debian's wiki

eth0 killed when adding virtual interface and multiple NICs are present
I have a strange problem on one machine where eth0 gets killed when I add a virtual interface. It's got something to do with the NIC ordering or with the xen network script having a problem with multiple NICs and virtual interfaces. I could need some help/comments on this. Some history: I added a NIC (chip identifies as Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit

KVM virtio block layer - is TRIM/DISCARD supported?
Hi, One question please: If I use SSD as a storage on a host machine, does KVM's virtio I/O layer pass the TRIM/DISCARD commands to the SSD? I guess the question would be twofold: 1) is TRIM supported/forwarded if only one LVM'ed partition of SSD is forwarded? 2) is TRIM supported/forwarded if full SSD is forwarded (i.e. /dev/sdX) -- Best regards, Dmitry Mikhailov

Virtual NICs (aliases like eth0:1) won't come up after reboot
With one problem down I still have another remaining. Since the installation of our primairy webserver we have had a problem with the network aliasses. Our server has 8 IP adresses so we used the tool provided in the GUI to specify (and name - for our own convinience) eth0 aliasses with the other 7 adresses. After setting them up, applying them, activating them and restarting

OT: adding a wifi adapter to openvswitch
Actually I do a similar thing. I use a VM as my home/office firewall. It works quite well and I would argue it is as secure as your standard firewall based on something like openWRT running on dedicated hardware. I also run a wireless AP in bridged mode to allow local network access on an appliance. There should be no reason that you could not put both on the same physical hardware. As for

Fedora Core 2, cPanel and Ruby
Hi, i have a live server with Fedora Core 2 and cpanel. I want to install Ruby 1.8.2, so i can use rails, but it has some dependencies that need to swith the computer to Fedora 3. It requires a new version of openssl, which breaks dependencies in a LOT of packages. What do you recommend me to do? Update the whole system (how?), use some kind of chroot to install the new version of ruby...?
