Import from Evolution
I need to import the mail database generated by the evolution mail reader into dovecot. Evolution stores its mail in maildir format (fully standards compatible, I think); I would be using the maildir format in dovecot. Is there anything in the wiki, etc. explaining exactly how to do this? Why do this? Evolution is hopelessly broken, and is not likely to be fixed in the forseeable future, and

Mixed maildir and mbox folder
Hello, i tried to implement a mixed structure of mbox for spams and spam backscatters and maildir for the rest at dovecot 1.0.13. I used the information at the dovecot wiki: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces (Multiple Mailbox Locations) But if i try this (complete config is attached with this part) namespace: type: private separator: / prefix: "#md/" location:

Mixing mbox and maildir
Hi there. I understood that in Dovecot 1.0 it should be possible to mix the usage of mbox and maildir mailboxes. I just downloaded, built, and am testing dovecot-stable-20050304. I'm a bit confused as to the terms of namespaces (haven't read that part of the RFC yet), but this does not seem related. Anyway, when I try specifying: default_mail_env = ~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u On

What does "namespace inbox {..." mean
I'm trying to set up a dovecot server for which mail arrives in an mbox, and mail is stored in a maildir. The wiki (see http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces) refers to this as "Mixed mbox and Maildir". It advises handling this situation by creating two namespaces: one for the mbox and the other for the maildir. On the other hand the sample configuration coming with dovecot in my

INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All, I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64. I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried : default_mail_env =

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format? Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to do is have a folder with a

mbox/maildir mixed setup with system/virtual mixed users
Hello Everyone, I'm using dovecot 1.0.7 (not sure how relevant it is though) configured to handle both sytem users and virtual users. The system users are handled by default (PAM), while the virtual users are handled pretty much like this: passdb passwd-file { args = /var/spool/vmail/%d/auth/%n } ...And mailbox and folder location settings: userdb static { args =

Silent migration from mbox to maildir?
Hi, after migrating to a new hardware (which is soo soooo mutch faster than the old one) I start to think about migrating from mbox to maildir. I'v read some docs and wikies and some questions are unanswered or maybe I skip the answers: - Is it possible to migrate the mboxes "silent" e.g. if a user logs in the mbox is converted? - regarding the Namespaces wiki article, it is

Behavior difference in mbox versus Maildir listing
Hi, My MUA (claws-mail) is having a hard time listing directories for a mail account with two namespaces, one of which using mbox and the other one using maildir to store mails. Let's call the namespaces "#mbox." and "#maildir." and have "." as separator. Assume I have the following folder hierarchy: $namespace $namespace folder $namespace folder folder1a

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi, I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox. I've tried something like default_mail_env = mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox). I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on nicely-mirrored NetApp

Staged migration from mbox to maildir
So much changes in this migration that the ideal way to do it would be to begin with a few users or a department, then migrate the users affinity group by affinity group: first an institute or so, then the faculty, then the staff, then the students, moving to bigger and bigger groupings as the bugs work out of the migration and the move becomes more assured. We use sendmail and procmail.

Migrating mbox to maildir
Sorry to bother everyone but I was wondering if it is possible for Dovecot to handle mbox AND maildir at the same time? Example: I want to convert from UW Imap using mbox to Dovecot using maildir. Do I need to convert ALL my users mbox mailboxes to maildir right away or can I convert them one at a time? I'd like to use maildir with all my new users, but I'd like to be able to

dsync: assert panic on mbox // no INBOX sync on hybrid mbox/maildir
Hi, This (hopefully!) might be a case of user error, as I'm new to dovecot... Alternatively it might be some confusion in an index, since I've been mucking about trying different things in my configuration files and had frequent crashes. I'm trying to sync 2 (LAN) hosts, ideally to have full automatic replication happening. They both have hybrid mbox INBOX and maildir++ folders,

mbox and maildir
Is it possible to mix maildir and mbox formats with dovecot? For example, I would like ~/mail to be in maildir format yet keep the inbox (/var/mail/%u) in mbox format. If so, how may I go about this? Or am I stuck not being able to create subdirectories in ~/mail? Cheers, Shane

Mixing MBOX and MAILDIR
Hello, I have about 100 mboxes, a few with a lot of mails and others with a few mails. I have configured dovecot to use maildir as mail format, but I would like to give users the ability to access their old email located in their old mbox. So all the new mail would be in the ~/Maildir/ and their old or archived email in /home/vmail/mboxmail/%Ln How can I add a namespace to achieve my
