maybe fix for MSW segfaults
Hi
Have been wrestling with the frequent GC segfaults on Windows.
Seems they occur b/c Windows sends Events (UpdateUIEvents, I think) with
the same pointer repeatedly. These get wrapped in a ruby Event object as
they are processed, and a mapping stored through SWIG''s trackobjects.
However, the ruby object isn''t referenced anywhere, so gets swept and
destroyed by GC when it

new crasher on bigdemo
Hi
Seems that the last round of commits makes bigdemo crash fairly quickly.
Guessing it''s something to do with either the Window or fixmodule change.
Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory.

fixmodule patches
These patches (should) give us support for compiling against Ruby 1.9.

Problem with PaintDC(MSW)
When implementing EVT_PAINT handlers in c++ the PaintDC object is
constructed at the beginning of the function,
and auto destructed at it''s end, which informs wxwidgets that "invalid
regions in the window have been repainted".
Under ruby, this is not the case and causes a stream of EVT_PAINT events
to be sent to the given window (until one
of PaintDC objects is destructed by

swigwin
Anyone on the list have some pointers for getting swig working properly
on Windows? Anytime I reswig a file it breaks wx.cpp. I''m sure I''ve
got a setup problem but I haven''t been able to put my finger on it yet.

build problems, part III, and runtime problems, part I
After decoding the unresolved symbols from wxruby2.so using c++filt, and
comparing with the symbols provided by wxGTK, it became clear that wxGTK was
using wchar_t whereas wxruby2.so was using char. So I rebuilt wxGTK,
turning off unicode. That worked. No more unresolved symbols. What
gives? Should the wxruby code have been built using wchar_t, and if so,
how?
However, now I get the

Patch for Swig 1.3.29
Attached is a patch for Swig that at least allows us to link the
library. I am experiencing a number of bugs that will need to be
tracked down and squashed. I haven''t even had time to look at the
newer Swig features yet.

wxRuby-2.0.1 release ?
Hi,
What about releasing a new version shortly ?
This is a long-awaited request from several users especially for
recent ruby-1.9.1 versions on MinGW.
Cheers.

embedding wxruby?
Hello,
is it possible to code a wxWidgets GUI in C++ and pass the whole wxApp or just single windows to embedded Ruby code? This would be very nice to provide a scriptable plugin system.
Greetings,
Niklas

Reswigged link error
After reswigging I get link problems:

Mac.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _mWxruby2

SWIG Bug
In trying to add wxTextCtrl to wxruby-swig, I''ve been running into a
problem with the argument conversion that appears to be a SWIG director
bug. It is tied to multiple inheritance, and is related to SWIG
specifically making director''s ''initialize'' take a first argument, but
because ''initialize'' is static there isn''t a self value

find_window_by_xxx doesn''t find Gauge or BitmapButton
I''m fairly new to the Ruby world, particularly WxRuby, so please
forgive me if this is ground that''s been covered in the past. I''m
trying to load a frame from an XRC file (created using DialogBlocks),
and I''m having trouble getting an instance of the Gauge object using
the Wx::Window.find_window_by_xxx methods. I''m trying this on Windows

Scintilla
wxScintilla already comes with a SWIG friendly header file. I modified
the rakewx and the Scintilla.i file to include it directly from the
wxScintilla install. This means it''s an odd-ball compared to our other
classes. Does anyone see a problem with this? I think it''s best to use
the one supplied with the installation to avoid problems of the header
file getting out of

wxruby-swig: where does wxclasses-2.4.2.xml comes from?
Was trying to understand more about the internals of wxruby-swig, where
does the big chunk of XML comes from? I saw something similiar in
Python, is that massaged out of there?
The codes produced by extractxml.rb and wxclasses-2.4.2.xml is quite
different from the original header files. Just for example the WxDialog
class.
OnXXX are non-virtual in WxWidgets, but virtual in wxruby-swig

Patch for wxRuby2
Ok so I made a lot of changes and the controls sample works pretty good now.
What I changed or added:
- Got all my modifications meshed into wxRuby2.
- Added constructors to wxIcon.h
- Changed Xrc.i to XmlResource.i and changed wxXrc to wxXmlResource
within the file.
I also had to change Xrc to XmlResource in rakewx.rb.
- For backwards compatability with wxRuby 0.6 I added the subclass methods

Looking for volunteers (no C++ knowledge needed!)
I just posted a follow-up to our bug that old SWIG versions are not
properly detected, leading to unclear failure messages:
---
Actually, this just got a lot simpler. We used to support both 1.3.25+
and 1.3.24-, so we had to do both kinds of detection. Now, we REQUIRE
1.3.29, and therefore any SWIG that can''t give us its version number the
new way is automatically too old.
We can get

ListItem patches
Hi
Attached, patches to implement ListItem. This class, in wxruby 0.6.0, allows styling of individual items in a ListCtrl, via a particularly clunky API. In disambiguating the overloaded ListCtrl#set_item method it introduces one non backwards-compatible change. I''ve followed the WxPython convention as described in the Wx class ref, renaming set_item(index, col, string, imageid) to

wxruby unfriendly to other threads?
I''ve seen a few e-mails about multithreading with respect to wxruby
but nothing recent. Unless I''m mistaken, and that may be, there
still appear to be problems.
The following code seems to hang my spawned thread in favor of the
wxruby event loop:
Thread.new do
puts "in thread"
loop do
sleep 5
puts "looping"
end
end
puts "main
