memory mgmt etc
Hi
Seems we ran into what football commentators call a ''run of bad form'',
when you can''t get the ball in the net for love nor money, and your
defence is leaking goals like an extension library leaks memory. But no
bad run lasts forever, so wanted to get your thoughts on what we should
focus on next. Apologies for a longish email.

trackobjects and SWIG 1.3.30
I have some conditional code based on the SWIG version. Current
versions of SWIG 1.3.30 still don''t fix %trackobjects correctly so I''m
going to remove the test for now so it builds correctly with my version
of SWIG. Hopefully before 1.3.30 is released we''ll have a better
trackobjects in SWIG.

maybe fix for MSW segfaults
Hi
Have been wrestling with the frequent GC segfaults on Windows.
Seems they occur b/c Windows sends Events (UpdateUIEvents, I think) with
the same pointer repeatedly. These get wrapped in a ruby Event object as
they are processed, and a mapping stored through SWIG''s trackobjects.
However, the ruby object isn''t referenced anywhere, so gets swept and
destroyed by GC when it

EAC - slow ripping speed
Hi.
My first post over here related to my first try to use WINE.
I am using 0.9.58 and the 2.6.24-rt kernel (Ubuntu Studio Hardy Beta)
I installed EAC and almost everything works fine expect the ripping speed, which doesn't seem to be adjustable. The drive speed is not exceeding 2-3.
I tried all kind of settings. Even setting the drive speed manually up with
hdparm -E did not change it.

any suggestions to deal with 'Argument list too long' for a R CMD check?
Since, gcc was using upwards of 2gb of ram to compile my package, I
just split all the functions into individual files.
I guess I'm too clever for myself, because now I get hit with the
"Argument list too long" error.
Is there a way to deal with this aside from writing my own configure
script (which could possibly feed the gcc commands one by one).

W2K BSOD: Memory errors
Hi everyone! This is my first post to the list. Be gentle ;)
I run Windows 2000 Pro SP4 EN, on a 1400 MHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird. 512 MB RAM, not sure what speed though.
For a few months now I've been getting errors while encoding with flac. I use foobar2000 for encoding from WAVE to FLAC, with the help of CUE sheets. I can confirm it's not foobar itself that's giving the errors,

Memory problem with GridCell*Editor
Alex,
I was getting the following crashes when editing cells in a grid:
./init.rb:1072:in `main_loop'': undefined method `begin_edit'' for
"_p_wxEvent":String (NoMethodError)
from ./init.rb:1072
but only after the first App GC mark phase.
So I changed all the GridCell*Editor.i files from GC_MANAGE to
GC_MANAGE_AS_EVENT. Which stopped the crashing. My question

revised get_client_data patch
Here''s a revised patch for fixing get_client_data. It tackles the
serious problem with the previous patch (segfault on exit) and makes the
key bit of code available for sharing with other ControlWithItems
classes. So it''s a candidate for applying. If it works I''ll add to other
relevant places, like ListCtrl and ComboBox.
The tricky part was detecting whether a
