[PATCH 00/10] (v5) virtio: console: Fixes, new way of discovering ports
Hello, This patchset is still based on Linus' tree but I'll rebase when Rusty sends out the disable multiport patches. This series reworks the ABI to allow port discovery (only) via the control queue. In addition, it adds support for non-blocking write() support, which means no spinning. This works fine with the recent patches that are on qemu-devel. Also included is removal of

[PATCH 0/6] virtio: virtqueue ops cleanup
virtqueue ops were introduced in the hope that we'll have multiple implementations besides virtio_ring, but none have surfaced so far, and given that existing virtio ring is deployed in production we are likely stuck with it now, so this layer just adds complexity and overhead. Further, the need to pass vq twice to each call (as in dev->vq->vq_ops->kick(dev->vq) ) adds potential

[RFC 1/2] virtio-ring: Use threshold for switching to indirect descriptors
Currently if VIRTIO_RING_F_INDIRECT_DESC is enabled we will use indirect descriptors even if we have plenty of space in the ring. This means that we take a performance hit at all times due to the overhead of creating indirect descriptors. Instead, use it only after we're below a configurable offset. [PATCH] virtio_console: Add support for multiple ports for generic guest and host communication
Expose multiple char devices ("ports") for simple communication between the host userspace and guest. Sample offline usages can be: poking around in a guest to find out the file systems used, applications installed, etc. Online usages can be sharing of clipboard data between the guest and the host, sending information about logged-in users to the host, locking the screen or session when

[PATCH 09/11] virtio: console: Don't always create a port 0 if using multiport
If we're using multiport, there's no point in always creating a console port. Create the console port only if the host doesn't support multiport. [PATCH 2 of 5] virtio: rename virtqueue_add_buf_gfp to virtqueue_add_buf
Remove wrapper functions. This makes the allocation type explicit in all callers; I used GPF_KERNEL where it seemed obvious, left it at GFP_ATOMIC otherwise.
