getdiskfreespace
Hi all, I was just working on the FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING stuff again. I''m a little confused about determining the cluster size. According to the MSDN docs, using GetDiskFreeSpace() on disks over 2GB may return incorrect values. Some threads on comp.os.ms-windows.* seem to support this as well. I did come across this, however:

Using callbacks with ReadFileEx
Hi all, First, I just realized I''ll need to go back and fix some of the prototype declarations for windows-pr. The callback parameters will now need to be set to ''K''. ReadFileEx is one example of this. For purposes of my question, let''s assume ReadFileEx has been declared like so: API.new(''ReadFileEx'', ''LPLPK'',

GetFinalPathNameByHandle for XP and earlier
Hi all, How''s this look? I based it on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366789(VS.85).aspx. I''m undecided as to when I should raise an error versus when I should just let it fall through, but this is how it is for now. You''ll need the latest windows-pr from CVS, btw. Regards, Dan PS - Where should I put it? In Windows::File directly? In a separate helper

[Fwd: win32-service-0.6.1 using a Rails Model]
Any ideas here? Line 911-921 indicates a failure in OpenService: handle_scs = OpenService( handle_scm, service, SERVICE_QUERY_STATUS ) if handle_scs == 0 error = get_last_error CloseServiceHandle(handle_scm) raise Error, error end Something to do with WEBrick perhaps? Need some ACL help for win32-file
Hi folks, I''ve got most everything done for the pure Ruby version of win32-file. The last thing left (since I''ll be moving the IO methods to a different package eventually) is the file security stuff. Here''s what I''ve got so far for the get_permissions method. However, I''m stuck at GetAce(). If someone could help me finish up this method, I

Pure win32-thread library?
Hi all, Here''s my initial stab at a pure Ruby win32-thread library that doesn''t work at all. I''m not sure how to pass the start address of the arguments to the callback. I thought about Marshal, but you can''t marshal a proc. BTW, the CreateThread method in windows-pr needs to be updated for this to have any hope of success. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan #

Playing with NtQueryInformationFile
Hi all, I''m trying to get the allocation size of a file via a file handle (rather than its name). The example below works for FileNameInformation but I can''t get it to work as expected for FileStandardInformation. Here''s some sample code: # query_test.rb require ''windows/handle'' require ''windows/error'' include Windows::Handle

Playing with ReadFileScatter()
Hi all, Looking at the IO.readlines source in io.c, it looks to me like they grab 8k chunks, split on the input record separator, and buffer accordingly. Since it looks like ReadFileScatter() does some of that work automatically (in page file sized chunks), I thought I''d give it a try. Here''s what I''ve got, but it doesn''t work. I have an incorrect parameter

Speeding up win32-eventlog
Hi all, I released win32-eventlog 0.4.5 today. It''s still a bit on the slow side. The profiler (and general testing) indicates that it''s line 696 that''s the major culprit: va_list = str.split(0.chr)[0...num] Other than changing 0.chr to a literal "\0", does anyone have a way to speed this up? It''s not crucial, but I thought it might make a nice

fatal flaw in popen4 on windows? [WAS] Re: Nonblocking IO read (fwd)
Hi Ara, I''ll take a look. In the meantime, I''ve cc''d the win32utils-devel mailing list to see if anyone has any ideas/suggestions. Getting an actual system error
Heya all, I don''t think I''ve been paying attention. When a Windows API function fails, I could have been doing this: raise SystemCallError(GetLastError()) Instead of this: # Where ''Error'' is nested under the current class. raise Error, get_last_error I''m not sure how big of a deal this is in practice, however, or if it''s even preferred for

Can''t write to "Windows PowerShell" source with win32-eventlog
Hi all, Tim Uckun reported, and I''ve confirmed, that you can''t write to the Windows PowerShell event source for some reason. Tim thought it might be because of the space in the name, but my attempt to quote it did not seem to help. In order to follow along, install PowerShell, create the foo.dll using the foo.mc file in the ''test'' directory, and try the

JRuby version of win32-api - initial try
Hi all, I''ve got a preliminary JRuby version of win32-api checked into CVS at the moment under win32-api/lib/win32/api.rb. I''ve also pasted it below. It doesn''t quite work right in that I can''t get it to modify the arguments in place in the API#call method. Take a look at the sample code at the very bottom to see what I mean. I haven''t even tried

The nsw story revisited
Preface: This paper shows that "poison" was never actually necessary in the first place. “Poison"s existence is based on incorrect assumptions that are being explored for the first time. I have been re-reading Dan Gohman's original post "the nsw story" [1] and have come to the conclusion that Dan got it wrong in some respects. He came up with "no signed

win32-file, overlapped added
Hi all, I''ve got overlapped and offset support in both nread and nwrite. The only thing left before I want to release this (as 0.4.0) is to get NO_BUFFERING to work. Unfortunately, I can''t get it to work. Park, I looked at that site you sent (and borrowed some code from it), but I don''t see anything special happening for NO_BUFFERING. I thought it required
