Another patch of win32-service for nice startup.
Hi,
I believe this patch would be a perfect solution for a lengthy
initialization application.
Added hStartEvent, service_init, checkpoint increments.

Curious pause/resume behavior
Hi all,
While testing the pause/resume functionality with the daemon_test.rb
script, I noticed this odd bit of behavior. It appears that sometimes,
the pause command seems to actually stop the service. It doesn''t happen
every time - just sometimes. Here is a bit of command line history to
demonstrate:
C:\eclipse\workspace\win32-service-0.4.0\test>ruby daemon_test.rb start

Open3.popen3 oddity
Open3.popen3 returns the pid as well as the in, out, and err streams.
I thought only the streams were supposed to be returned.
Thanks

Bug in win32-service
I found a small (easily worked around) bug in service.c. The accessor
for the start user is called "start_name", but create_service tries to
access "@service_start_name". A simple
"service.instance_eval{@service_start_name = ''name''} works around it,
but I thought ya''ll might want to fix it.
BTW, thanks for win32-utils... I don''t like

Issues with win32-service Daemon
Hi all,
I wrote a little echo client to run as a service. I have a couple of
problems with this. First, any time I try to define anything in
"initialize", the service fails to start. Any idea why?
Also, this service runs for a while, then just quits for no reason that I
can see. The Event Log merely says, "The Abba service terminated
unexpectedly".
Any ideas on

win32/service... still with problems.
Hello list,
In my quest to get Mongrel working as service for win32, found some
problems with win32/service that make it impossible to solve.
Attached is the simplest service script I could do with ruby, which
depends on win32/service.
I found that doing anything complex in service_stop (killing threads,
doing file handling, even sleeping for 0.25 seconds). crash the
service with backtraces (of

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for win32-service. In the process of using it for running a

PUT (and friends) bug?
As far as I can tell, sending an actual HTTP PUT request to a Camping
app will never parse the params out of the request body - or am I
going nuts? This code seems to say only POST''s will parse the request
body:
elsif @method == "post" and \
e.CONTENT_TYPE == "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"
q.u(C.qsp(@in.read))
end
I looked for an easy spot to stick

Stop words in queries
I''ve run in to an issue that I''m not sure how to address. Basically, I''m
building queries with occur_default Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST,
and using the StandardAnalyzer which does stop filtering. The stop
filtering is working beautifully on the indexing side. The problem is
that when the query parser parses through a query with a stop word in
it, say

Service.start arguments failing or causing segfault
Hi,
Unless I''m mistaken the final arguments to Service.start should be
passed to the Daemon''s service_main method. Correct?
I modified the Service.start method (now in CVS) to look something like
this:
def self.start(service, host=nil, *args)
...
num_args = args.length
if args.empty?
args = nil
else
args.unshift(service) # Necessary?

Service pause and resume
I committed a new version of service.c and daemon_test.rb.
Now you can pause and resume a Ruby service module.

[RFC] The Early Demise of Myriad (Thanks To Ruby Threads)
Hi Everyone,
I figured out this weekend that Ruby''s Thread implementation causes the Ruby/Event binding I wrote to completely stall and go dead. After reviewing the Ruby source and watching several strace runs, it''s clear that the Ruby Thread implementation uses select in a way that--while not being bad--just isn''t compatible with libevent. The second a thread is

Problems with custom service and webrick
Hi all,
Windows XP Pro
Ruby 1.8.2
I''m having a couple of problems with the following
service. The first issue is that the code in
service_start doesn''t seem to fire off. The second
problem is that any attempt to do ''require "webrick"''
within webrick_daemon.rb causes the service to fail on
start.
Any ideas?

New Beta version of Rake for Rails Users ... Fix for Ruby 1.8.2 unit test bug
I have a new version of Rake that I''m (almost) ready to release. But before I
make an official release, I would like some Rails folk to give it it try ...
Why?
Because it contains a workaround for the notorious Ruby 1.8.2 test/unit bug.
Using this version of rails, it should be possible to unit test a rails app
without patching the Ruby 1.8.2 test/unit library.
Where to get it?

Asynchronous Pipe::Server problems
Hi all,
I''ve been working on the win32-pipe library (again) and I''ve reworked
the interface. Instead of Pipe.new_server or Pipe.new_client, there''s
now a base Pipe class, with Pipe::Server and Pipe::Client subclasses.
You can find the latest code in the CVS repo.
Oh, and you''ll need to update your windows-pr library with the latest
from CVS if you want to

TCPServer failure within daemon
I wanted to see if I could setup a simple echo server to run as a
service. So, using daemon_test.rb, I modified the Daemon class to
something like this:
require "socket"
class Daemon
def initialize
@server = TCPServer.new("localhost",8888)
end
def service_main
while state == RUNNING
while session = @server.accept
str =
