mirror.caosity.org change...
sorry for the massive cross-post, but I wanted to make sure that I get everyone that needs to know this. Mirror.caosity.org is having problems keeping up with all of the mirrors. Rsync is a memory hog when dealing with large repositories, and mirror just can't handle it. I am migrating mirror.caosity.org to a new host which should be able to handle the load better. Also, I will be limiting

Yum / Up2date issues and mirror.centos.org
There have been some complaints recently concerning this, so I thought an explanation of the setup AND recommendations are in order. First, I want to say that we need more donated servers with fast (at least 100mbit) internet connections. If you are making lots of money using CentOS and are a hosting provider, please consider providing us a donated server so we can better distribute CentOS. Now

rsync to mirrors failing
I try: rsync -auv rsync://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/5.2/updates/i386/ ..... And get rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(614) [receiver=2.6.8] And then, if I keep trying, eventually rsync 'works' and I get my updates. What is causing this?

rsync 2.5.5 fails to kernel.org
Greets. I thought I saw someone asking for problem reports against 2.5.5. Red Hat 7.1 + errata with rsync 2.5.5 from tgz sources. I use the rsync command: rsync -rltv --partial --delete --delete-excluded" \ rsync://rsync.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ \ /var/ftp/pub/mirrors/kernel.org/ I get the following error: rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1493971 bytes read so far)

mirroring with lftp
i've maintained a local centos repository at work using rsync, but it seems the corp honchos have decided to block rsync at our firewall, plus its never been 100% reliable, I'd get aborts on protocol errors sometimes several times before pulling down a complete new distro update. i'm trying to figure out how to do this with lftp, and its got me somewhat stymied. I'm testing

I'm a newb CentOS user and was struggling to find the netinstall info. An external site pointed me to the correct URL to enter, but it was difficult to find on the CentOS site. I manged to find centos 5 specific info that did the job (on the centos5 page ofcourse). The change I would like to add is below: What is the "URL" when I try to do a network install? If you desire to do a

[ANNOUNCE] netfilter.org looking for ftp and www mirror sites
--qX4XtzAfKSOolMWY Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi! The netfilter project is calling for international mirrors of it's homepage and ftp server. Ideally we would have one mirror for ftp and http per country, having ftp.<CCtld>.netfilter.org and www.<CCtld>.netfilter.org in operation. We already

No DVD Mirrors - Only Torrent
I love Centos. Have in on my data centre servers, my home servers, my laptop and my netbook. Yes there are serious and continuing security concerns relating to Gnome and KDE but they are not Centos. Currently running 5.6 and would like a two set DVD of that version. However none of the mirrors offer pure DVDs only Torrent versions which involve the possibility of bits being tampered with and
