win32-mmap test failures
Hi all, This is odd. It looks to me like we have all 4 variations of memcpy set in Windows::MSVCRT::Buffer but somehow this one creeps up. I actually noticed it in a few cases with that earlier mmap sub/replace example, but I wasn''t sure what was happening. Note that windows-api 0.2.3 and windows-pr-0.8.3 are the latest versions in CVS, but this happens with windows-api-0.2.2 and

Need some help with latest win32-mmap
Hi all, I''ve got the latest win32-mmap code checked into CVS. Unfortunately, it seems that I''m not able to open an existing mapping and retrieve set data. Below is a simple example that seems like it ought to work but doesn''t. Any ideas? # map1.rb require ''win32/mmap'' include Win32 mmap = MMap.new(:name => ''alpha'', :size

Trying to get a good example for win32-mutex
Hi all, I''ve been going through the various IPC modules for Win32Utils and converting them to pure Ruby. I''m almost done with win32-mutex, but I can''t get the example to work. I keep getting this error: C:/Documents and Settings/djberge/workspace/win32-mutex/examples/mutex_test.rb:41: undefined method `+'' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) from

Latest rb_win32_select patch
Hi Park, I tried your latest patch and ran the sample code: readPipe, writePipe = IO.pipe t = Thread.new{ sleep 5 while true sleep 0.1 puts "got #{readPipe.readline.length} bytes" end } i = 1 while true i += 1 sleep 1 puts "hello from main" if i > 3 writePipe.puts "a"*2048 end end t.join At the console I typed the

Won''t be at RubyConf
Hi all Sorry folks, I won''t be at RubyConf this year. I burned up the travel budget with a trip to Thailand, a makeup trip to Florida, and I''m headed to Florida again this Christmas. At least this gives me more time to work on Wuby. :) Regards, Dan

Pure Ruby TCP Daemon
Hi all, I created a "pure" branch on github that uses the code Heesob posted a while back: http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/win32utils-devel/2008-November/001274.html However, I couldn''t make it work on my Vista laptop. c:\Users\djberge\Repositories\win32-service\examples>ruby demo_daemon_ctl.rb start VERSION: 0.8.0

Help with win32/api, windows-api
Hi all, I must have been testing windows-pr with an old version of windows-api, because now when I run ''rake test'' for windows-pr I get this: C:\Documents and Settings\djberge\workspace\windows-pr>rake test C:0:Warning: require_gem is obsolete. Use gem instead. (in C:/Documents and Settings/djberge/workspace/windows-pr) C:/ruby/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/windows/api.rb:288:

File.exists?("A:") on Windows VM
Hi, I''ve got a Windows XP VM on my OS X box. Whenever I call File.exists?("A:") on it I get a system error pop-up box from Windows. The title of the window is "Windows - No Disk" and the error is "Exception Processing Message" followed by some numeric codes. It''s not a huge deal - eventually control returns to the program and it returns false

open3 for windows
Hi all, The topic of creating a unified API for open3 for Windows came up at RubyConf 2004 this year. Park, I was wondering if you would mind if we modified win32_popen so that the API matches the open3 library that ships with Ruby. This also means deciding whether or not to leave in the open2, open4, and posix stuff. I guess it doesn''t hurt to leave this in, although Open3.open4

Need some help with MMap# and MMap#=
Hi all, At RubyConf this year I talked about win32-mmap with Patrick Hurley and Ara Howard. Ara mentioned that Guy''s version of mmap (for Unix) contains some string-like methods that let you access pieces of the view like a string. Patrick and I came up with this (which requires the latest windows-pr in cvs so that we can use a more flexible version of memcpy, as well as some

For delete_user, try this patch: etc.c, line 639: - lpHost = (LPCWSTR)STR2CSTR(rbHost); +lpHost = AllocWideLString(rbHost); Lemme know how it goes. Tweak to win32-eventlog
All, I got a bug report from Greg Holmes where the description wasn''t being returned properly. At the moment, if there''s no event associated with the event id, then the description is empty. However, it turns out that there can still be associated information about the event. So, I propose the following tweak to the get_description private method: # If FormatMessage()

Temporarily setting the output language for cmd.exe
Hi all, One of the net-ping users reported that the Net::Ping::External library was returning false positives on Vista. Basically, it does a ''ping -n1 host'' and checks for certain error strings. The problem is that the error strings it checks for are in English. The user in question is using a cmd.exe that''s entirely in Swedish (I think). Is there any way I can

Marshal Data too short error with ActiveRecord sess. storage
I''m seeing a "marshal data too short" error with an ActiveRecord store for my session data. Other posts say that this happens when the size of the session data exceeds the size of the "data" column in the sessions table. But my "data" column is a TEXT field so it seems unlikely that I could have blown it out. Has anyone else seen "marshal data too
