VGA passthrough and nvidia optimus
Hi Is VGA passthrough with an nvidia optimus laptop remotely feasible? For those who don''t know, nvidia optimus is two hardware cards, connected to the same display. One sandy bridge setup (I use the intel driver for this), and one nvidia card. I have a laptop with this setup, and usually I''m using only the intel card. I then use acpi_call to power down the nvidia card. To use

How to install tp_smapi and acpi_call kernel modules
Hello, I've got a Thinkpad T420 and would like to use full tlp functionality. Therefore I need the kernel module tp_smapi and acpi_call. Have a look right here: http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-linux-advanced-power-management.html#installation There are only fedora related packages but none for RHEL/CentOS. Should I install that repo and hardcode the mirror to the fc21 repo? Regards Tim

Boot message of a modprobe.d conf file that does not exist
Hi all, I got a message at boot: dracut-pre-udev: libkmod: kmod_config_parse: /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_battery.conf line 2: ignoring bad line starting with 'options' I have had this file to load modules for my thinkpad (acpi_call & tp_smapi) but I removed it after recompiling the modules for a new kernel and using "make install load". My question is, why this nonexistent

How to install tp_smapi and acpi_call kernel modules
Thanks for your answer. tlp and tlp-rdw are already installed from epel. But these packages miss that kernel modules. So when I want these I have to add the repo and replace $release in the mirror url with 21 of fedora, right? Am 7. Optimus switch corrupts memory on Lenovo T440p
Hello, On new Lenovo T440p laptops with new BIOSes (1.16 and further) there is a memory corruption when trying to disable, and then re-enable, nvidia GPU. There is a bugreport for bbswitch ( https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/bbswitch/issues/78), but this problem shows even when doing disable and re-enable with acpi_call, and nouveau has dynamic power management support too. I have been trying

NVIDIA (including Optimus) laptop owners - please read!
Hi guys and gals, I'm working on improving nouveau's support for MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) chips and need some more data to check my implementation. To see if you can help, the first thing to do is jump over to /sys/firmware/acpi/tables and run "grep MXMS *". [root at nisroch tables]# grep MXMS * Binary file DSDT matches [root at nisroch tables]# If this isn't

Problem with GT520 and optimus on Fedora 17
Hello, I have an Asus laptop, U36SD, with Optimus technology. The discrete gpu is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M with 1GB DDR3 VRAM Using Fedora 17; up to kernel 3.3.7-1 I was able to use bumblebee and bbswitch and then running optirun command (as I could do in F16). No more with kernel 3.4. Tried 3.4.0-1.fc17.x86_64, 3.4.2-4.fc17.x86_64 and 3.4.3-1.fc17.x86_64. I already opened a bug against F17:

CentOS 6 : Tip for significantly increasing battery life / reducing power consumption (Thinkpad X220 Tablet)
Hello, I was not happy with the power consumption of CentOS 6 x86_64 on a new Lenovo Thinkpad x220 Tablet and I worked on reducing it. I just wanted to share with the list one of the changes which gave me the most significant improvement. As per http://www.williambrownstreet.net/blog/?p=387, add the following kernel arguments to the GRUB boot configuration: pcie_aspm=force

Re: Wow crach.. I use bumblebee to activate nvidia optimus
I also struggled with this, but finally got it to work. I had to skip the -opengl opion and only run it as optirun wine Wow*exe No problems and no cashes during install. Somebody also hinted setting operating system to Windows7 in winecfg. Other hints were to download the corefonts and ie8 with winetricks, and, ofc, you also need wine_gecko from you own distro, otherwise wine will complain or

[PATCH] master-compat: Compile i915 DRM for out-of-tree. Optimus laptops need it.

[PATCH] drm/nouveau: consider CLASS_DISPLAY_3D devices while detecting dsm/optimus
The present code assumes that optimus is present whenever two VGA (PCI_CLASS_DISPLAY_VGA) devices are present. This does not seem to be the case of newer laptops with optimus, in which case the nvidia gpu is a PCI_CLASS_DISPLAY_3D device. Rework the logic so that we count both VGA and 3D devices, when contemplating if optimus is present on the platform. Bugzilla:

The intent was to only enable it by default for optimus, e.g. see the runtime_idle callback. The suspend callback may be called directly, e.g. as a result of nouveau_crtc_set_config. I have tested this patch. I can confirm that now nouveau loads correctly without errors.
