Need a little help with the pure Ruby win32-eventlog
Hi all, I''m working on the EventLog#read method for the pure Ruby version of win32-eventlog, but I''m stuck on the get_description private method. Here are the problems: * I don''t think I''m advancing the EVENTLOGRECORD properly between iterations. Take a look at the end of the "while dwread > 0" loop. I get some records, but not all of them.

[PATCH] add (errnum) in front of windows error messages
On localized, non-English versions of windows, it is common to have two active charsets -- for console applications and for GUI applications, together with localized error messages returned by windows. But two charsets are rarely compatible, so sending the same byte sequence to console and to windows event log makes one or another to be unreadable. So at least include the error number, this way

R-1.7.0: Rproxy.dll loadlibrary/freelibrary error (PR#2914)
Full_Name: Venkatesh Mysore Version: R-1.7.0 OS: WindowsXP Submission from: (NULL) (216.165.110.10) While accessing Rproxy.dll repeatedly (using the code from the (D)COM example in the R website) causes a failure in the 24th iteration. R-1.6.2 does NOT give this error. This seems to be a memory management error, that might be linked to the huge leakage difference between R-1.7.0 and R-1.6.2

Tweak to win32-eventlog
All, I got a bug report from Greg Holmes where the description wasn''t being returned properly. At the moment, if there''s no event associated with the event id, then the description is empty. However, it turns out that there can still be associated information about the event. So, I propose the following tweak to the get_description private method: # If FormatMessage()

win32 eventlog dup
That''s weird. Line 296 is just a call to FormatMessage(). Folks on the mailing list - could this be a wide character issue? Buffer too small maybe? More on the description problem in win32-eventlog
I think I''ve narrowed it down to this call in eventlog.h hModule = LoadLibraryEx( szExeFilePath, 0, DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES ); In all cases where the description is returning nil instead of actual text, this appears to be the culprit. I''ll do some more research. In the meantime, ideas welcome. :) Dan
