RubyConf 2007 - Thoughts?
Hi,
For those of you that attended RubyConf 2007, what were your impressions?
Any more thoughts on JRuby, Rubinius, IronRuby or Wuby?

Is anyone on the list going to RubyConf this year?
I don''t know yet if I''m going to go. I''m still thinking about it.

win32-mmap - trying to marshal self
Hi all,
I realized the current implmentation has a problem - you can only get the last value set? I realized, after looking at the old C code, that it actually stores values in a hash and marshals the hash, not the values themselves.
That seemed clunky to me, though. I thought it would be more interesting if we just marshalled the entire mmap object and passed that back and forth.

open3 for windows
Hi all,
The topic of creating a unified API for open3 for Windows came up at
RubyConf 2004 this year.
Park, I was wondering if you would mind if we modified win32_popen so that
the API matches the open3 library that ships with Ruby.
This also means deciding whether or not to leave in the open2, open4, and
posix stuff. I guess it doesn''t hurt to leave this in, although Open3.open4

RubyConf
I might be a bit scarce this weekend -- I managed to score a late ticket
to RubyConf! I''ll be in Denver hobnobbing with Matz. :)

File.exists?("A:") on Windows VM
Hi,
I''ve got a Windows XP VM on my OS X box. Whenever I call
File.exists?("A:") on it I get a system error pop-up box from Windows.
The title of the window is "Windows - No Disk" and the error is
"Exception Processing Message" followed by some numeric codes.
It''s not a huge deal - eventually control returns to the program and it
returns false

Tweak to win32-eventlog
All,
I got a bug report from Greg Holmes where the description wasn''t being
returned properly. At the moment, if there''s no event associated with
the event id, then the description is empty.
However, it turns out that there can still be associated information
about the event. So, I propose the following tweak to the
get_description private method:

How should I select rows from a join-model based on more than one association?
A concrete example:
We''re building a system to organize the information about workshops
being held in various conventions. A convention has more than one
workshop, and each workshop can be held in more than one convention.
Also each workshop has a host, who is specific to a workshop being
held in a specific convention.
For example, Matz may host an "Introduction to Ruby"

[UPDATE] RubyConf 2006 registration pre-info
Hi --
Here''s the current status of RubyConf registration:
I''m tinkering with the form.... We''re using an outside registration
service for the first time, so I have to make sure I get it right, and
it''s actually pretty complicated (I think). We got our credit card
merchant account, so we''re good to go on that score.
My current plan, barring

bwplot stats question
Hi List,
Just wondering where the documentation exists for the statistics which
makeup the bwplot.
I'm guessing that if R is like similar products that the graph is
constructed as
The median is the filled circle. The box surrounding the filled circle
depicts the 25th and 75th quartile. The range of values is given by the
dotted lines (?whiskers?) outside of each box, and possible

WinRuby?
Hi all,
With the latest 1.8.6 release out today, I was wondering - what would
you all think of a Windows-only fork of Ruby? I mean Perl has
ActiveState, right? It ships with a slightly different interpreter and
different libraries, so why not Ruby?
Here''s what I''m thinking:
* Win2k or later. No 95/98/ME support. No cygwin/mingw, either.
* Assume VC++ 8. Use whatever

Beginning R help?
Hi all,
I'm currently working through the "Beginner's Guide to R" (Zurr et al.) and
I'm wondering about the first exercise in chapter 3:
I imported the data from BirdFluCases.txt and executed the 'names' and 'str'
functions as follows:
Bird = read.table(file='C:\\rbook\\BirdFluCases2.txt', header=TRUE)
names(Bird)
