In the past we assumed that external displays did their own dithering if needed. GPU based dithering is only needed for laptop displays if i had to guess. I was almost thinking my monitor was malfunctioning because of strange barely visible flickering. Hi, The HP ZBook 15 G3 laptop builtin display (eDP-1) does not work correctly with v4.11-11413-g2868b25. When booting the laptop, the resolution seems to be limited to 1024x768, and gnome-session segfaults. Up to 4.11 the display works just fine in 1920x1080 mode. Higher layers tend to add a lot of modes not actually in the EDID, such as the standard DMT modes. Changing this would be extremely intrusive to everyone, so just force the scaler more often. On the ThinkPad P71, we have one eDP connector exposed along with 5 DP connectors, resulting in a total of 11 TMDS encoders. Since the GPU on this system is also capable of MST, we create an additional 4 fake MST encoders for each DP port. While we expose the ability to turn off hardware dithering for nouveau, we actually make the mistake of turning it on anyway, due to dithering_depth containing a non-zero value if our dithering depth isn't also set to 6 bpc.
