chfn, date, chsh INFECTED according to chkrootkit
I ran chkrootkit ( v. chkrootkit-0.43 ) earlier and
noticed that chfn, date, and chsh showed as being
infected. I remember reading post from the past that
right now chkrootkit is giving alot of false
positives, so I suspected that these 3 binaries are
not bad.
However, to be on the safe side, I deleted the 3
binaries, removed /usr/src and did a 'make world' to
4.10-STABLE.
But, chfn,

Integrating samba with existing AD
Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to set-up a samba server in my network in order to
replace the existing windows samba server. It's been now two weeks that I am
struggling with a vicious problem, and I cannot see any issue right now.
Before I loose all my hairs, I am sharing with you this problem : hopefully,
someone will have a tip for me.
The software involved :

Setting up Ruby + RubyOnRails on the new intel mac (any feedback?)
Hi
I''m about to attempt to setup RoR on an iMac powered by an Intel core duo.
Before I start, is there anyone who would have some feedback about a similar
setup (and likely, the caveats hidden down there) ?
thanks!

currency conversion webservice in a rails app?
Hi,
I''m interested in using a currency conversion web service in my rails
app. Does anyone have a free service that they use and like? I found
this one
http://www.webservicex.net/WS/WSDetails.aspx?CATID=2&WSID=10
I''ve tried to make a simple, plain Ruby script to connect to this and
get a conversion rate without success.
How do I integrate a webservice into my rails app? I

AR - Migrations - how to use a varchar as primary key instead of int ?
Hi
I''d like to have a varchar primary key named id instead of the default int
id. Does anyone knows how to specify this from migrations ?
Should I also specify something in the model class ?
thanks!

Documentation proposal
Hi everyone,
ThibautPerrin here, I would like to propose a How-To to use php7.x on
CentOS 7, using the SCL, as most of the articles you can find on the web
offer to do this using third party repositories, which might not be the
most appropriate thing to do :)
The location would probably be in the How-Tos I'm guessing, unless somebody
has a better location to offer ?

shrink a dataframe for plotting
I get tables with millions of rows. For plotting to a screen-size
jpg, obviously just about 1000 points are enough. Instead of feeding
plot() the original millions of rows, I'd rather shrink the original
dataframe, using some kind of the following interpolation:
-- split dataframe into chunks of N rows each, e.g. 1000 rows each
-- compute average for each column
-- issue one new row

Dear David,
you asked this question a while ago on the R mailing list and got no
answer. I have the same problem and was wondering if you had found a solution

Samba Guide, SuSe and Yast
Hi,
I'm using SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 9.
I've setup a Samba/LDAP solution according to ch5 of the Samba Guide.
It's working - that's great :-)
Now I'd like to know if anyone tried to manage the users database using
tools provided by Yast.
Is there a risk to mess up everything ?
Did anyone try that before ?
Thanks for your help,
Olivier Thibaut.

PCA with NA
Dear all,
(Mac OS X 10.4.11, R 2.6.0)
I have a quantitative dataset with a lot of Na?s in it. So many, that
it is not possible to delete all rows with NA?s and also not
possible, to delete all variables with NA?s.
Is there a function for a principal component analysis, that can deal
with so many NA?s.
Thanks in advance

Rake: How to determine the Rails version?
Hi all
I''m learning to use Rake for migration etc.
I wonder if there''s a way to determine the currently used Rails version,
so e.g. when installing a new engine using Rake I could check if there''s
a version used that''s older as needed and so abort the installation. You
know what I mean? ;-)
Thanks and greetings,
Joshua

Is there anybody use radrails as the editor?
Could anybody told me how to set the rdoc and ri for the radrails?
I am using Windows XP, RadRails 0.63 and Ruby 1.82
I cannot set the rdoc and ri to a directory. Which file should I set
for that under the ruby''s path in the preference in radrails?
Thanks.

Hello,
AV::paginate query first by a count, how access this value in the
controller or view ?
Why ?
Because I''ll like to display the total number or records found w/o
doing another expenssive Count.

Read data from Excel
A client of mine has a ton of data stored in Excel spreadsheets. I''m
building a web application for her (backed by a real db of course) and want
to import all that data. Is there a library available to read data from
Excel? Is there an easy way to upload the spreadsheets and then read the
data?
Thanks,
