xulrunner 1.9.2.26 available in repackaged form for use with legacy programs
I have re-packaged xulrunner 1.9.2.26 for CentOS 5 for use with older applications which can't be run with xulrunner 10.0.4. I created 'compatibity' RPMs that can be safely installed alongside xulrunner 10.0.4. I needed it to run the Evergreen 2.1 and 2.2 Staff Clients at our local library. The RPMs are available in the Deepwoods Software repo at the URL:

CentOS 6.4 x86_64 VM Install freezes
I am trying to install a CentOS 6.4 x86_64 VM using a CentOS 5.9 x86_64 host, but its install has froze *twice*. What I am doing is to create a 10gig LVM volume, which I put a MS-DOS partition table on (using fdisk). I then format the only partition to ext3, install grub and install the pxeboot kernel and initrd.img and a simple grub.conf to load this. I have the CentOS 6.4 x86_64 ISOs mounted

"Continious Repo" vs. 'normal' Centos-Base/Updates questions
I have some questions about the "Continious Repo". Does the "Continious Repo" replace the Centos-Base/Updates repo? Is the "Continious Repo" in a standard place on the CentOS mirrors? Ie. can I just add another line to my rsync script to get this repo? It is not possible for me to just update directly off the net (I have a slow and unreliable network connection)

FF 24 is borked: One must have tabs, like it or not!
I just did a yum update on my CentOS 5.10 desktop machine and it installed FF 24. And tabs have appeared and cannot be [really] removed! Arg!!! *I HATE TABS!* (Yes I did installed the "hide tabs when there is only one tab" plugin, but that is not really a complete solution.) Mailman 2.1.16 RPMs?
Before I go through the hassle of building it myself I want to know if someone else has built RPMS for Mailman 2.1.16. I *need* to update the version of Mailman on my CentOS 5 server to Mailman 2.1.16 in order to be able to use the from_is_list option to deal with DMARC issues with Yahoo, Aol, and Hotmail. -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 / heller at deepsoft.com Deepwoods

Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings broken under xen 3.0.3-142.el5_9.1 / 2.6.18-348.1.1.el5xen?
I am not sure what I did, but for some reason Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings are broken on 64-bit xen desktop machine (but not on my laptop (32-bit, no xen)). Both machines are (mostly) up-to-date and running CentOS 5.9. I rarely hop to different Virtual Consoles (eg Ctrl-Alt-F1 ... Ctrl-Alt-F7), but today I wanted to go to the main console to watch some kernel verbage (I was checking something with

Installing an *older* version of xulrunner (eg as a compatibility package)?
Is there a way of installing xulrunner-1.9 along side xulrunner-10.0? I have an application that wants the older version of xulrunner and does not seem to work with xulrunner-10.0. -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 / heller at deepsoft.com Deepwoods Software -- http://www.deepsoft.com/ () ascii ribbon campaign -- against html e-mail /\ www.asciiribbon.org -- against

"BUG: soft lockup - CPU#n stuck for X s! [swapper:0]"
I just updated my quad-processor X64 machine (AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor) to the latest CentOS 5 xen kernel (2.6.18-371.4.1.el5xen) and I am getting occasional "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#n stuck for X s! [swapper:0]" messages. I did some net searching, and found some bugzilla reports (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=649519 and http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=4488),

Automount, External USB disk and e2fsck
Does Automount/autofs automagically run e2fsck? If so, how does one disable this? We have an external USB connected 2TB hard drive setup to automount. Sometimes e2fsck gets fired up, I think from Automount. I have this line in the automount config: /backupdisk -fstype=ext3,nocheck :LABEL=BACKUP I believe this should prevent Automount from running e2fsck, but it still runs it. (We

CentOS 5.10: Upgrading from IUS's php52 to CentOS's php53 questions
I would like to update one of the websites on my server from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 3.2, but it wants PHP 5.3. I am currently using IUS's php52 5.2.17, which is fine for the Joomla 1.5 and the various WordPress sites (up to 3.9) currently served on this server. I plan to test the update procedure on my home (test) system (a pretty much identically setup system) before possible breaking my

Mailman 2.1.16 or later for CentOS 5
Is there a repository with a newer version of mailman for CentOS 5? CentOS 5 ships with mailman 2.1.9 and it looks like I need some of the features of newer version of mailman to cope with DMARC issues relating to aol, yahoo, and hotmail with at least one of my mailman lists. -- Robert Heller -- 978-544-6933 / heller at deepsoft.com Deepwoods Software --

EFI & grub on a Dell PowerEdge T20...
OK, I have installed CentOS 6.5 on this beast using parted to make GPT partitions (royal PIA, but done). The machine has three 500G SATA disks with 4K sector sizes. Partitioned with three partions for each of the main disks: sda1 => FAT32 => /boot/efi sdb1 => FAT32 => (not presently mounted, but will be a backup copy of /boot/efi). sda2, sdb2 => /dev/md0

What replaces /sbin/hotplug in CentOS 5?
What subsystem replaces /sbin/hotplug in CentOS 5? The older hotplug package is missing from CentOS 5 and /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug yields an empty string. Since hotpluging for standard devices still seems to work, I presume that something replaces the hotplug helper found on CentOS 4. Can someone point me in the right place? All of my Googleing points me back to the (obsolete?) /sbin/hotplug

Running MacOSX as VM under CentOS 5.10?
Is it even remotely possible to run MacOSX (or Darwin) as VM under CentOS 5.10 / xen? Or am I better off not even trying and just getting a MacMini or MacBook to just jack into my LAN? I just need a 'build box' and possibly something to do light testing (eg does the program run? Does the GUI come up?). I don't really have the *physical* room for an iMac, unless the screen is tiny.

Problems with widescreen (16:9) under CentOS 5 w/ xorg-x11-drv-i810-1.6.5-9.40.el5
I am the tech guy for a local library. We have a network containing several diskless workstations. The hardware are these P4 boxes: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SAMBA845V-24-4-R&cat=SYS (We have inserted additional memory, bringing most of the machines up to 1.25Gig of memory, and two up to 2Gig of memory.) CentOS 6 KVM networking: What am I missing???
OK, I have a strange problem. It is probably something simple/stupid, but I cannot figure it out. I have a nice new PowerEdge T20 that I installed CentOS 6 (6.5) on with Virtualization (KVM). I then installed Ubuntu 14.04 in a virtual machine, with a bridged network: ------ begin ub140464.xml------------------ <domain type='kvm' id='2'>

virt-install hell: how to *force* a local CD-ROM install?
I have a CentOS 5.6 system with a AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 (which does not provide hardware virtualization support, so I can't use the --cdrom option) and I am *trying* to install FC15 as a guest O/S using a local FC15 DVD-ROM image. Everything work until the installer *insists* on firing up the network to get the repo data, etc. I have a *dial-up* Internet connection and this is a
