Updating information on Skype in HowTo
Hello: My user name is YvesBellefeuille. I'd like to edit the information on using Skype under CentOS 6 at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype . The current information is based on http://www.openfusion.net/2009/09/19#fn.html , which was written in 2009 and is no longer accurate. Here are two examples: (1) it's no longer necessary to install qt4; (2) the packages to be installed are

Skype on CentOS 6
Hi: I've finished the changes about installing Skype on CentOS 6. Thanks. (Except that I still think that this information should be moved in the list of HowTos from section 17, "Misc.", to section 18, "Non CentOS Applications".) New Grub Installation How-To
Hello: I've written a Grub Installation How-To, and I'd like to post at least a draft version. The information presently at http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/InstallFromGRUB is somewhat related, but my How-To is much more detailed. The information at "Tips and Tricks: Installation Tips" is most closely related to what I prepared, so I suggest that a new page entitled

HowTo: Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6
Hello: I've completed the HowTo "Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6", currently at http://wiki.centos.org/YvesBellefeuille/Grub_Installation I'd like to suggest that an appropriate location would be in the HowTos, section 17, Misc. (It doesn't seem to fit neatly anywhere else.) I couldn't figure out how to do the two internal links at the very bottom, so please

xmlrpc-c-client from CR repo requires curl >= 7.15.5-9.el5_7.4
The package xmlrpc-c-client-1.16.24-1206.1840.el5_7.4.i386 from the CR repository requires curl >= 7.15.5-9.el5_7.4, which isn't available. The most recent version of curl I see is 7.15.5-9.el5_6.3, also in the CR repository. The CentOS "contrib" repository
According to the Wiki, the CentOS contrib repository "contains packages contributed by CentOS users which do not overlap with any of the core distribution packages". The repository seems to be empty. Are contributions actually welcome? Are there any policies about proposing packages? Thanks, -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca> "La Esperanta Civito ne rifuzas anticipe

Skype's no-redistribution policy
Hello: Skype for Linux version 4 has recently been released. An RPM package has been made, and it's mentioned in the Wiki: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype#head- a08dbc518378653842007a2eec37bc32e13c0bd0 However, Microsoft claims to prohibit redistribution of Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/legal/terms/tou/ , subsection 4.2). My feeling is that the Wiki shouldn't mention

Grub Installation for CentOS 5 and 6
Hello: I've written information on installing Grub: http://wiki.centos.org/YvesBellefeuille/Grub_Installation I wrote this in response to requests that I update the Hard Disk Upgrade Mini How-To I wrote a zillion years ago to add information about Grub: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2011-August/115661.html http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2011-August/115617.html The

Correction to HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
There's a mistake in HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey , so I'd like to ask that someone fix it, or that I be given editing rights. The mistake is that in the section on CentOS 6, step 8, the correct command is "syslinux /dev/sdb1" (only). Also, although this isn't a mistake, I'd like to suggest mentioning in step 1 that the reason why part of the USB key has to be formatted

Proposed change to HowTos/Skype
In the section for CentOS-5, it would be nice if the following alternative method for running Skype on CentOS-5 were presented: You can download a statically linked version of Skype which will work in CentOS-5 from http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.1.047.tar.bz2 I think it's a little bit silly that the first recommendation for running skype on CentOS-5 is to install a new

Skype and problem with ALSA mixer driver?
Having used skype successfully in the past with previous CentOS versions, I haven't yet been able to get it working fully with CentOS 5.3 - the playback sound works OK but I can't get the mic working. I previously used the skype version installed with yum from the skype repo but thought maybe this was faulty, so have just installed the static version (cd skype_static-2.1.0.81). However,

[PATCH 0/3] ocfs2: Inode Allocation Strategy Improvement.v2
Changelog from V1 to V2: 1. Modify some codes according to Mark's advice. 2. Attach some test statistics in the commit log of patch 3 and in this e-mail also. See below. Hi all, In ocfs2, when we create a fresh file system and create inodes in it, they are contiguous and good for readdir+stat. While if we delete all the inodes and created again, the new inodes will get spread out and that

skype on 5.7
Earlier last year I had a 5.7 system running with skype. It worked fine. Later last year I had to reinstall my entire system. I didn't install skype then. Yesterday I tried to find a version of skype to use on 5.7, but couldn't find one on skype.com; there's no version for RH/CentOS 5.7. Does anyone know where a working skype can be found? Thanks.

installing working skype possible???
I easily installed and used skype on my previous linux distro on this same machine, but am having problems getting it to work on my relatively new centos 5.3. I downloaded three versions of skype from their website: the two fedora rpms wouldn't install, their error messages complaining that it needed another package, a package which was already installed. (I figured it had to be looking for

[FYI] skype-2.0.0.72.nosrc.rpm
Greetings! I have been using statically linked skype for a while, but found it uncofortable to install it in contraversion of rpm db, so I decided to package it. You can get nosrc.rpm here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4043330/skype-2.0.0.72-1.nosrc.rpm You can rebuild it in usual way, like that: Install rpmbuild (if it's not installed yet): sudo yum install rpmbuild As an ordinary user, not

Skype For CentOS 6.4
Hey all. Does anyone know if there is a newer version of Skype than skype-2.1.0.81 available for CentOS 32 bit?
