Five functions proposed for base
Dear r-devel,
Among the R functions I have written and later shared with colleagues,
there are five that I hope will become a part of the R base package. The
tasks are neither specific nor marginal, so rather than creating one more
'misc' package, I would be happy if the R Development Core Team would
adopt these functions and hammer them into shape.
The functions are available from

GLM with random effects
Hi R-Users,
I have 3 replicates ('Replicate) of counts of parasites ('nor.tot.lep')
before and after an experiment ('In.Out'). I am trying to treat the
three replicates as a random effect in order to determine if the main
effect (In.Out) significantly influences my dependent variable
(nor.tot.lep) after the variance explained by the replicates is
accounted for. I have

FLAC__metadata_simple_iterator_set_block corrupting Flac (ogg) stream?
Hey!
So, I'm clearly doing something wrong, because I've written a program to
view and modify the comment tags in a FLAC file, which appears to be
embedded an Ogg stream. This particular file also has ID3 headers at the
beginning, but I was planning on ignoring those and fixing them up using
some ID3 code later on ...
Now, to read the comments is quite simple:

New to R and I am trying to run a GLM with random effects.
I have 3 replicates ('Replicate) of counts of parasites ('nor.tot.lep')

Strikethroughs and dashes
Who really uses strikethroughs?? This is one of the most common
tripwires in RedCloth.
You are the friend--the only friend--who has offered to help.
Obviously em dashes.
I died in -2006- wait, no, two-thousand-FIVE!
Obviously strikethrough.
I''m going on a trip - a long one - to the Virgin Islands.
That''s got to be en dashes.
Such a cheap, no-hassle, no-worry

Strange problem with X11 forwarding...
Ok...
This could be cockpit error, but I just don't see it. I've
installed OpenSSH 2.1.0 and I can't get X11 forwarding to work. I
don't recall having this problem under 1.2.3, but I don't use X11
forwarding often enough to really say that I actually saw it work
either.
Both sides are running OpenSSH-2.1.0-1 installed from rpm.
The client side is running RedHat Linux 6.1

Trying to "expand" some data - Newbie needs help
I want to calculate "expansion factors" for elements in my dataframe
based on a 2-d cross classification. Since I'll have "missing values"
(many combinations will have no record) I'll need a second "expansion
factor" for each "row". I've included my "work to date" below, but I'm
not very close to getting this right.

Why are these different?
I want to import some "target values" to normalize elements of a
dataframe. I'm summarizing the existing totals using
as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData)) and reading a .csv
table of target values. I can't even get them to list out as similar
data items.
My idea is to do something like this, but I don't know how to do it in R

How do I read a text (.csv) file to match a matrix/cross tab? (Object confusion??)
I'm having a problem reading data to set control totals for a dataframe.
I want to adjust a dataframe based on a 2-d table of values, which I get
by using :
> CurrentX1Sums <- as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData))
> CurrentX2Sums <- apply(CurrentX1Sums, 1, sum)
I've created a .csv file with new (target) sums that looks like this:

Sipura support down the tubes
I had a problem in the past with a SPA-3000 acting funny that Sipura
helped me with by telling me how to factory reset it. They responded in
less than a day to my email request and the unit has worked fine since.
I've had similar turn around on requests related to a batch of SPA-841
phones. They were all handled by real people who appeared very
knowledgeable on the products. This appears

Sangoma FXO/FXS cards?
Saw an ad in the latest Linux Journal for Sangoma's FXO/FXS analog cards.
it was part of an ad for a reseller. I can't find anything on the
resellers site or Sangoma's site either. Did the ad jump the gun or
someting? Is this for real?
