Suggestions for moving a PDC function
I currently have a server which is both the PDC for my domain and the file
server for the network.
I need to split these functions and move the PDC function to another box,
while leaving the original server as the file server on which home
directories and roaming profiles are stored. User credentials are stored in
a tdbsam database and I am running Samba 3.5.
Does anyone have any pointers on

SerNet has created an open source Samba4 appliance for early testing
Dear samba and samba-technical lists,
The Samba Team is working towards getting a Version 4.0 released.
In oder to ease testing of the Active Directory features of
Samba4, even for people who don't want to download and compile
the source code, SerNet (http://www.sernet.de/) has created a
software appliance based on current Samba master snapshots.
The major purpose of this is to make it very

Samba 4 on Production
We're involved in a project that the requirements could be satisfied
with both samba3 and 4. Anyway I am testing what can be done with
Samba4 and after following the tutorial published in the official
wiki, I was able to create my test domain, and join WinXP and Win7
machines to it without a problem.
I still need to test the GPO functionality, and some other stuff, but

UPS integration into NUT
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
we are developer and producer of UPS devices. Now we would like to integrate a small UPS via USB connection to NAS systems. We heart from third party that we need a special driver for NAS systems to work fine and to display also the company name and UPS device name in the web page / software of NAS.
Currently we have a UPS with USB and our own VID (0x2B2D) and PID

SNMP Stuff/MIBs for CyberPower and APC UPSs
Build from source, and done . . . wasting your time looking for a less out of date RPM is pointless. . . RPM, .deb, etc are almost always downrev. . .

OggPCM: support for little-endianness only?

Yes, I agree that the speed difference between the swapping and the
no-swapping case is negligible, but I'm talking about CPU cycles.
With libsndfile people do stream 10, 20 or more channels of audio
off disk at once, with soft realtime

Carsten,
This is a common issue in technology when you have complex products
that the majority of consumers of those products do not understand how
they operate.
If most UPS customers understood the importance of standardization they
would have refused to purchase non-standard UPSes and all UPSes would
have long ago standardized on a single management protocol.
The normal thing is that product

Many Thanks for your explanation, Ted!
All the necessaries to produce (and live from) new UPS-Equippment I
understand. Because of this I decided years ago to sell MGE-UPS. MGE did
have the greatness to pay Arnaud Quette to improve the Metasoftware NUT.
So we have one Software for brand new models and over 20years old IT
dinosaur. We earn money with replacement of accumulators and save in

Eliminate the temp copy
Hi,
I have to sync two directories and one is an ftp mount. I had to set a
different tmp dir as tmp files are not allowed in ftp mounts so I see no
point in copying things to a temp dir if they won't be used for the
transfer.
Is there any way to eliminate the use of a tmp dir? If not, could it be
a feature request?

redundant ldap - client config
Hi all,
I have a few ldap servers slaved to a primary via syncrepl, all is well.
I've set my clients to auth against a few and there /etc/ldap.conf
looks like so;
uri ldap://primary.domain.com ldap://secondary.domain.com
However when either primary or slaves go down, while the clients can
log in, access is very slow, ls of any dir is painful.
The /var/log/messages shows several failed

RAID options for Gluster
I think this discussion probably came up here already but I couldn't find much on the archives. Would you able to comment or correct whatever might look wrong.
What options people think is more adequate to use with Gluster in terms of RAID underneath and a good balance between cost, usable space and performance. I have thought about two main options with its Pros and Cons
No RAID (individual
