[PATCH supermin 0/2] Allow an alternate libc to be used for init.
v1 -> v2:
- If we split out the init program into a separate init/ directory,
that makes it much easier to build against an alternate libc.
I tried to build against uClibc, but uClibc requires an entire build
chain, which looked like it was going to be a massive ballache.

[PATCH supermin v2] init: Support root=UUID=... to specify the appliance disk by volume UUID.
v1 -> v2:
- I fixed the end condition of the loop in parse_root_uuid.
- Retested.
Didn't change the busy wait loop into a function or macro,
as per discussion on IRC.

[PATCH supermin 0/3] Require root= parameter, refactor init.
Require the root= parameter is passed to specify which
root (apppliance) to mount. Libguestfs has done this since 2012.
The other two patches are small code refactorings in the init
program.

[PATCH supermin] init: Delete initramfs files before chrooting into the appliance.
After supermin has finished running, the initramfs files sit around
occupying swappable memory but serving no further purpose.
This saves a little memory, at the cost of about 1ms of extra boot
time.

[PATCH supermin 0/5] Make supermin mini-initrd quieter and faster.
Various patches to make supermin quieter. By outputting fewer
messages on the fast path, we use the slow emulated UART less, and
this improves boot times.
Also remove some kernel modules that we cannot or should not be using,
which also improves boot times.

[PATCH supermin] init: Support root=UUID=... to specify the appliance disk by volume UUID.
Instead of specifying a device name (eg. root=/dev/sdb), this permits
specifying an ext4 volume UUID (root=UUID=12345678-...). This allows
the appliance to be robust against the non-determinism of SCSI device
enumeration.

another missing link in febootstrap; failing tests for libguestfs
After the last round of patches to febootstrap, the image-based test in
libguestfs still failed. It turned out that this happens because Debian
started replacing /var/run and /var/lock with symlinks that point to a
tmpfs mounted to /run. The symlinks were copied to the appliance but
/run/lock did not exist, so pvcreate refused to run (script
'images/guest-aux/make-debian-img.sh').

Difference between the old and the new febootstrap
Hi,
First, I'd like to thank you for your nice effort of the febootstrap tool.
I understand there are 2 major versions of this tool
the first has the syntax of "febootstrap fedora-12 ./f12" while the second
has the syntax "febootstrap --names ....."
Is it correct?
I also understand the second one is used only to create a minimal system.
is it correct too?
But what about

febootstrap 3.x use cases.
I'm confused! What use cases is the new febootstrap primarily intended
for? I'm mainly trying to figure out if I'm trying to put a square peg
into a round hole.
What I'm looking into is using linux containers (LXC) either using
libvirt or lxc-tools) to create jails for a web hosting type
environment. I can see that in the long run btrfs has some nice
features to help with this

Using febootstrap , please help
Hello,
I am new to febootstrap. I am struggling to install fedora 14 on
disk.img (formatted with ext4fs) mounted on
/mnt/temp . How to use febootstrap to do this ? Does it require any yum
configuration ? I searched the web for documentation on this , but
nothing is clearly mentioned. Please anyone tell me how to do this.
I am doing this on Fedora 14 host.

IMPORTANT: New git repositories for febootstrap & libguestfs
The machine at et.redhat.com is going to be decommissioned soon, and
so I have arranged alternate hosting for these two git repositories.
As of now you should use:

git clone git://git.annexia.org/git/febootstrap.git

[PATCH 1/2] Add -u and -g options to febootstrap-supermin-helper
Bash automatically resets euid to uid when it executes. This can mean that the
effective user id of a program at the point it calls febootstrap-supermin-helper
can be lost if any part of execution chain involved bash. This in turn can
result in:
* the generation of an incorrect checksum, which contains the uid.
* the generation of supermin files with differing owners
The -u and -g options allow
