Is mechanize thread safe?
Hello all, I was just wondering if anybody knew whether mechanize is supposed to be thread-safe or not? I didn''t really find any information about it anywhere. I''ve been getting a strange error in protocol.rb when I run a script that uses mechanize in a multi threaded fashion, but not with a single thread. I''m trying to write a spider that does multiple gets in

problem scrapping ATnT site (Matt White)
Try to use firebug to assist you finding these changes. I never used AT&T website, but you may need to login and find the download url using firebug as I did: http://zenmachine.wordpress.com/2007/11/11/scraping-with-firebug-and-wwwmechanize/ regards, gm On Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 4:12 PM, <mechanize-users-request at rubyforge.org>wrote: > Send Mechanize-users mailing list submissions

dealing with Encoding::UndefinedConversionError: "\xA2" from ASCII-8BIT to UTF-8
I''m 99% certain that this is what''s being discussed in https://github.com/tenderlove/mechanize/issues/168 But I''m not sure what the remedy is. My production app is running on Heroku, so I need a fix that I can push there. Can someone post instructions that this neophyte can follow? (I gather I''m supposed to fork and add the current master version from

issue submitting a form
Hi. Recently I started rebuilding my old Mechanize script, which I used to automatically log in to a certain site and retrieve files from it. Old version worked great, however, when I did the update it started complaining. Here''s the log of the error: /Users/lukastolyarov/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/mechanize-1.0.0/lib/mechanize/form/field.rb:30:in `<=>'': undefined method

settings headers in mechanize
hi, a potential mechanize user here. i''ve looked at the API but it''s not clear what capacity there is to arbitrarily set the headers - does mechanize allow for this? mechanize is clearly great for web browsing, but i also need to construct get and post requests from scratch. i''ve looked at net:http, libcurl, openuri, but mechanize seems simpler and more functional than

Mechanize::Agent#post_connect_hook response != Mechanize#parse response
I''m working through an idea for a db-backed cache for Mechanize#get(). The idea is to use a Mechanize::Agent#post_connect_hook to cached any fetch data, and create a subclass of Mechanize::Agent#get() that checks the cache before calling super. I want to store the un-parsed (raw) page in the db, and call Mechanize#parse when there''s a cache hit, something along these lines:

keep-alive
Greetings, I''m reporting on what I found after trying to use mechanize on a site like www.tellme.com. With mechanize versions 0.6.5, 0.6.4, 0.6.3, I was able to use mechanize without any problems on www.tellme.com. However, when I upgraded to 0.6.6 or 0.6.7, mechanize simply ground to a halt after a while. I''m not sure where the problem lies, but after looking at the

BUG: Possible issue with escaped hrefs
I noticed an interesting problem today when scripting against a web app. The application contained a link in it that used %20 instead of spaces. After running mechanize through the Charles debugging proxy I found that mechanize was converting %20 to %2520 (double escaping the %20). This appears to happen under both 0.5.4 and 0.6.0. Here''s a simple set of files that demonstrate

Handling HTTP 500 errors
Hey guys, How do you handle HTTP 500 errors with Mechanize? After researching the web I thought something like this would work: begin Mechanize.new.get(url_which_returns_500) rescue Net::HTTPInternalServerError puts "Life is awesome. Let''s move on" end Anyways, the code in the rescue block will never be executed. Can you guys help me out? Kenny

Tips on testing
Hey WWW::Mechanize users, I''ve been using Mechanize for about 3 or 4 months now, and I''m rather enjoying it. I''ve done scraping in PHP & Python, starting with raw text and HTTP requests, moving up to regex and Curl, and finally landed myself here, making me much more productive when scraping pages. At the moment, I''m in the middle of a decent sized

Mechanize for multi-part form post
Hi, I''m interested in using Mechanize as a way around manual multipart form creation. But the API is really centered around the idea of a form built from a page. I''d love to see a syntax like: response = agent.post(''http://www.mydomain.com/upload'', :image => File.new(file), :title => "My image", :description => "an image
