Request for CentOS stats
Greetings,
Are there any summary CentOS numbers available?
The number of subscribers to this email list, and the number of server
installs?
Much thanks,

Package lists for Cloud images
hi Guys,
As we get ready to start publishing Cloud Images ( or rather images
consumable in various virt platforms, including public and private
clouds ) - it would be great to have a baseline package manifest worked
out.
What / how many images should we build. At this time we were thinking of
doing :
- CentOS-5 32bit minimal
- CentOS-6 32bit minimal
- CentOS-5 64bit minimal
- CentOS-6 64bit

Promo Store is now open
hi Guys,
We've been trying to get something like this setup for long time, now
thanks to Khusro Jaleel's efforts its online! The CentOS Promo request
system is available at http://promo.centos.org/
And we have some TShirts there - three different designs, six different
colours and a few options on sizes for each type. Get them quick!
The TShirts are already paid for by sponsors, all you

XEN or KVM - performance/stability/security?
Hi all.
I am currently building a small test cloud based on Eucalyptus 2.0.3 and
CentOS 5.8 x64. I have a choice which hypervisor to use: KVM or XEN.
KVM is the default in CentOS 6 but I have read also many good things (for
example PV guest machines, isolation between Dom0 and DomU) about XEN.
Key factors from my opint of view are:
- stability (which one runs more smoothly on CentOS?)

Installing over network
Hi All,
I see that sparc.centos.org does not contain any ISO's so that I can install from CD.
How does one install over the internet? I have never done it before.
I assume use the boot.iso and make sure that I have DHCP turned on so that I get an IP automatically from my router?
Any advice?

KVM management tools.....
Looking at what my best options for managing KVM via a gui. Running Centos
5.4 and have several machines and want to migrate off of vmware server 2.x.
So far it appears that the management tools haven't quite cought up to
Vmware but are gaining and closing. I have been looking at convirt, and
others. I like what I see in Ovirt but I'm not sure it is available for
centos 5.4, or is it?

network and stability issues
hi Guys,
Over the last 24 hours we have had a series of stability issues. First,
the DC our mail/lists machine is hosted in had power issues ( Internap
LGA9, NY, USA ); then we had a h/w failure and needed a chassis swap (
thanks to the guys in the DC who executed this within minutes ); and we
have since again had network issues - although power to the DC and the
server seems stable now.

OpenNebula on CentOS-6
hi,
Some of you might have seen the email on the centos-devel list, for the
rest I just wanted to point out that we've been working on getting
opennebula ( http://www.opennebula.org/ ) rpms and contextualised images
for opennebula available with a very low barrier to entry for CentOS.
The 'win' with OpenNebula is that its easy to install, easy to get
going, scales well and mostly

system-config-network-tui not part of base install... wtf
Who was the genius that decided that system-config-network-tui should
NOT be part of the base CentOS 6.3 install ??
Not to mention it has insane deps like wifi firmware packages... not
really if all you want to do is configure eth0 from the command
line...

Xen box down
My stock CentOS 5.4 box won't come up after a reboot as reported from my
office.
Error is: "duplicate or bad block in use"
Before rebooting xm dmsg had printk suppressed messages.
The box is remote, 2 hour drive. Some advice on what hardware to bring
with me and how to approach this via fsck would be welcome.
Its an nvidia dmraid boot on WD Velocirapters.

5.9: wait, or CR?
Hey, folks,
I just saw Johnny mention 5.9 yesterday, and this morning, my manager
tells me he got about 100 emails from somewhere about 5.9 and a CR
repo. So, my questions to the team is: is there a CR repo, and is there
some urgency to enabling it, or shall we just wait for the release?
The *only* thing I can think of having real issues with is the newest
PIV cards....

looking for lxc rpm for centos 6.2 x86_64
Hi all
Just on a fresh CentOS 6.2 minimal install, it doesnt find lxc:
[mihamina at dev-spare ~]$ sudo yum install lxc
[...]
No package lxc available.
Error: Nothing to do
[mihamina at dev-spare ~]$ yum provides lxc-create
[...]
No Matches found
Well, I think this is not really a problem: there probably is a personal
packager that made his own lxc package and some people in

Download official CentOS AMI?
I'd like to download the official CentOS AMI files for 6.3 x86_64, but that
does not seem possible. The goal is to use the same image on both public
and private clouds, to improve consistency. Are the AMI files available
for download anywhere, or from anyone?
I offer my apologies if the CentOS-virt list is not the correct contact for
this query.

mirroring people.centos.org
Is there an easy way to mirror people.centos.org?
I tried "rsync people.centos.org::" and it gives some disclaimers
followed by a null list of available modules.
I've got an ugly workaround using wget, but would prefer to use rsync.

wiki request
My username is AaronAnderson
I want to create wiki pages for community use with instructions on how
to do common post-install tasks such as Configuring a multi-client
OpenVPN server, or adjusting fonts, or installing LAMP, or replacing
apache with lighttpd. All things I have documented on a personal
wiki... It's time to share.

Arabic Wiki
Hi guys,
I'm a MAJOR fan of CentOS and its proven itself a lifesaver many a time in
my professional and personal lives.
I was hoping to help out by contributing to the wiki by translating as much
as is possible of the wiki into Arabic. The thing is, the wiki is split
into several ISO based country codes and there are 22 countries where
Arabic is the national language, do I pick one in

Arabic Wiki pages, again
Could I please, pretty please, with whipped cream and a cherry on top,
be given the privilege to alter the most exalted and sublime of pages,
the Arabic wiki? :)
I'm still pumped up about this and I'm planning on staying pumped up
about this for quite some time.

http://www.centos.org/docs
Hi,
Why does http://www.centos.org/docs not point to say this for example:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/index.html
The latter is more comprehensive. The links that
http://www.centos.org/docs contains all have "upstream" labels on the
reading material, so I'm guessing the trademark boundries are not being
crossed.
