migrating from Centos 5.8 -> 6.3 LDAP Client Config
Hi,
I run a Centos 5.8 samba server which uses a separate LDAP centos 6.3
server for user and group authentication.
Now we migrate to a new centos 6.3 samba server and I'd like to know how
do 'ldapify' that new server the best way.
I'm a bit confused if I can use the same nss setup like on the current
old server or how and what to configure to go with SSSD?
May be someone can

CUPS not rendering documents via Samba
Hi guys, any CUPS / Samba experts out there?
The CUPS printing guide is a horrendous maze of options. I've got
nearly there but I've got
one thing wrong and I don't know where to look.
I set up our two printers (HP K5400s) using the GUI printer tool. Both
print the test page just fine.
I set up the [printers] and [print$] shares and can browse to the
printers from Windows (XP for me)

CentOS 5.8 Samba and Windows 7
Hi,
any one has successfully joined a Windows 7 workstation to a samba (3.0.33) domain on CentOS 5.8?
I am wondering if I need to install a newer version (from sernet by example) or if I can keep the old one and try harder...
Thx,
JD

CLI speed tester for CentOS?
I'd like to run a CLI broadband speed tester on my CentOS server.
I downloaded "tespeed" from <http://sourceforge.net/projects/tespeed/>.
This ran fine under Fedora-19, but failed under CentOS
with the message "# reject large message",
although from a quick look at the source
it did not seem to be using a large test-file.
Does anyone know of an alternative CLI

migrate ext3 to ext4
Hi all,
I issued the commands on a single disk system:
with two partitions / is linux sda1 and /home is sda3
yum -y update
yum -y install e4fsprogs
reboot
umount /home
tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sda3
e2fsck -yfDC0 /dev/sda3
That worked just fine.
I then had a different system that is software raid.
where / is linux and md0 and /home is md1
yum -y update
yum -y

Theoretical Firewall Specs?
So, the more I look at various ways to lay out my infrastructure, the more I am thinking about specs for hardware.
Starting with firewalling.
How does one determine the specs for a firewall?
What I mean is:
1. motherboard/CPU - p4? Dual-Core? Intel i3, i5, i7?
2. RAM? 4gb? 8gb? More? 32gb?
3. Obviously GB Nics!
I am bring about 300gb of traffic a month right now and I expect that to

Backup live system
Though I've worked with enterprise systems, I'm not familiar with FOOS
backup software. Which of those recommended would allow me to backup a
system while users are active on it? If it matters the system uses LVM.
I'd also like to be able to avoid needing the network if possible.
That is, I'd plug in a disk into a USB port and backup the system onto
that... again, while

mapping drives
I am having trouble mounting drives. We have a Windows 2008 (10.1.1.17,
MRISRV02) server with folders I what access to. On my Fedora 8 client, in
my fstab file, I have:
//10.1.1.17/USERS/Jeff /home/mriuser/Desktop/jeff cifs
rw,username=cluster,password=mrilab 0 0
and this works just fine. My samba is up to date:
[mriuser at localhost ~]$ rpm -qa | grep "samba"

text-mode system and /media
I'm running a headless server, so no GUI, just ssh logins. I don't seem to
have the mechanism that automounts USB drives to a subdirectory of /media,
and from googling around I think that's a feature of a GUI-based system.
What implements it? Right now I manually create a mountpoint in /mnt and
then manually mount by label from /dev/disk/by-label after plugging the
drive in. It

Samba users as local workstation admins?
Hi All,
We have a problem, which is that several of our users are local admins
on their own workstations. We'd like to let them retain these rights,
but we're switching to a PDC. Is there a way to have them authenticate
to the domain, and as a regular user, but on the Windows workstation
have full control? What's the best solution for this? I obviously don't
want to make them

Grub Error 22; no Windows
Hello,
I have a GridEngine setup with 5 subnodes and two RAIDS attached. I backed
up the OS drive - 120GB - to an external hard drive - 500GB - using
ddrescue. The OS drive is partitioned as:
sda1 has the OS and is about 7 GB
sda2 has /var and is about 4 GB
sda3 has swap and is about 1 GB
After backing up, there were 4KB of errors, but all at the end of the disk
around 118GB. This used to be

Recover RAID
Hello Everyone,
First time CentOS poster :) I have CentOS 4 installed on the head node of a
Sun Gridengine cluster set up in a RAID. The head node has four hard
drives, and I assume that drives 1 and 2 are in a raid and then drives 3 and
4 are in another raid. I was trying to expand the OS partition on drive 1
because it was full. I took drive 1 out, put it in my Fedora 8 box as a

sysctl.conf: http://fpaste.org/oMjD/
Thanks for your help in advance. If you need more informations just let

Slicing cra**y csv files
Hello,
For not too regular users of R, preparing the data is somehow a burden.
Comming from iMacro in FireFox I get a badly designed csv, which I need to
put into a daily R script.
The data looks like that (e.g.):
22 Results,"35 Results","39 Results","2 Results","7 Results","23
Results","42 Results","36 Results","22

Error: Failed to initialise locking database
Greetings!
After successfully setting up the printer using my RedHat Linux 7.2 (using command-line interface), and after installing my ethernet card (again, using command-line interface), I've tried to setup my linux server to share the printer with Windows-based machines.
I thought I pretty much did everything right, but when I type a "smbstatus", I get the following:

Using a variable for mysql/database Query
Hello,
Collecting data I need to check in a mysql server. As the data are dependent
on each other I have to filter first.
However, I have now the problem that I find a value and would like to insert
it into a data query for the "real select" command. Obviously, typing 'x'
does not help as the database does not now this entry. Anyway to make it
work?
I am using RMYQL
Thanks!
