possible nfs issue
Hi all, we've started receiving complaints from users that seemingly use more quota than they actually have. We noticed that these users have (in some cases many) .nfs files in their mailspool. Some of our admins checked their own dirs, and noticed them there as well. This could of course be unrelated to dovecot (kernel issue, netapp issue) but maybe somehow has an idea about if dovecot could

Using XL toolstack (Xen) with DRBD
Hello,
Currently it seems that the drbd disk type with Xen''s XL toolstack (vs XM)
to get the automatic promotion/demotion behavior of drbd devices is not
supported. Is there something I can tweak with the block-drbd script to get
this to work?
Thanks,
Chris

POP3 Performance
Hi,
We actually have a mail hosting solutions with aprox. 100 thousand
of email account, where about 90% of a customers use POP3 like email
configuration. About a few mounths (we perfomed a lot of migration
throught mbox email software to Maildir with dovecot) but i can see that
the performance is very poor and receive complaint about delays of
autentications of accounts.
The solution

crashes on 2.0.16
Hey all, I upgraded some servers today from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze, and after the upgrade I started getting dovecot crashes. I was on 2.0.13 but got these there as well, and hoped upgrading to 2.0.16 would help. It didn't. Anyone have an idea?

Clustering solutions - mail, www, storage.
Hi all.
I am currently working for a hosting provider in a 100+ linux hosts'
environment. We have www, mail HA solutions, as storage we mainly use
NFS at the moment. We are also using DRBD, Heartbeat, Corosync.
I am now gathering info to make a cluster with:
- two virtualization nodes (active master and passive slave);
- two storage nodes (for vm files) used by mentioned virtualization
nodes

interesting stats pattern
Hey all, im experimenting with dovecot stats service, and graphing the result. My initial results are kind of interesting. Check out this graph showing connected sessions and users:

At first I thought maybe one of our 35 imap servers was having issues sending data, but all individual servers show this patters. Here is a bunch of individual servers:

clustered file system of choice
Hi all,
I am just trying to consider my options for storing a large mass of
data (tens of terrabytes of files) and one idea is to build a
clustered FS of some kind. Has anybody had any experience with that?
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
Boris.

Storage cluster advise, anybody?
Dear Experts,
I would like to ask everybody: what would you advise to use as a storage
cluster, or as a distributed filesystem.
I made my own research of what I can do, but I hit a snag with my
seemingly best choice, so I decided to stay away from it finally, and ask
clever people what they would use.
My requirements are:
1. I would like to have one big (say, comparable to petabyte)

reason to switch to 1.1
We've been running 1.1 on about half of our servers for about a week now.
Ive mailed before that I was pleasantly surprised by its better use of
resources. Here's a graph showing that fact. Server load in the last 10
days.

read-only dovecot-uidlist
Hi all, i just investigated a user complaint and found a read-only dovecot-uidlist. Since dovecot couldnt write it, the process failed. Users can not reach this file, so how this became readonly is beyond me. Must be something in dovecot. Maybe an older bug?
Doing a search now for more readonly uidlist files, but that'll take a few hours.

problem with test56
Hi all, im doing some tests with the test56 release and im seeing some
problems with APPEND (may be related to something else, I just see it with
APPEND).
When I ask someone to move some emails from one mailbox to another, after
some messages (seemingly random), the client experiences a 'hang'.
When tracing the process what seems to happen is that dovecot doesnt
send a final OK after

segfault in RC15
Hi all, ive seen a few segfaults in RC15. It's hard for me to reproduce
but I was able to get a core when it happened with one of our customers.
RC15
FreeBSD 4.10
X86
NFS/NetApp
It's squirrelmail/webmail client.
Can't reproduce it, cant turn on dovecot.rawlog because I dont know in
advance which customer will hit this. See it about 5 times per hour,
with thousands of logins per hour.

Large file system idea
This idea is intruiging...
Suppose one has a set of file servers called A, B, C, D, and so forth, all
running CentOS 6.5 64-bit, all being interconnected with 10GbE. These file
servers can be divided into identical pairs, so A is the same
configuration (diks, processors, etc) as B, C the same as D, and so forth
(because this is what I have; there are ten servers in all). Each file
server has

slow squat fts index creation
Hi all, ive been playing with squat indexes. Up to about 300.000 emails in a single mailbox this was working flawlessly. The search index file is about 500MB at that time. Ive now added some more emails, and at 450.000 or so emails im seeing a serious problem with squat index creation. It takes...f o r e v e r . The .tmp file is being so slowly, it will probably take 2-3 hours to create. Upto

director in large(ish) environments
Hey all, just wondering who here is running the director service in a larger environment. I just switched our whole production setup to the director and am quite pleased with the result. We're doing a peak of about 25000 tot 30000 concurrent sessions on 3 servers. But ive shut 1 server down a couple of days ago to see what would happen and 2 servers carried the load easily. minor director issues
I noticed 2 minor things with the director.
1) if I start 2 directors, but in 1 of them I dont add the other as a director_servers, they both start spamming the logfiles really really fast. It seems there is no backoff mechanism in the protocol between directors.
