Troubles with NetworkManager
NetworkManager used to work fine for me but during the last few
installations its a big hurdle in the wireless connectivity.
I'm using Madwifi and its interface is correctly listed and working but I
cannot connect to any wifi AP without NetworkManager. I've two interfaces:
eth0 and wifi0. Starting NetworkManager doesn't show any notification icon
in the top right in gnome and I believe

DHCP_HOSTNAME in ifcfg-eth0
Hello
Is there a way for the dhcp client to send the current host name of the
machine when requesting a lease ?
Currently I have to include a line like
DHCP_HOSTNAME=appserver2
in my /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, but I would like to
tell the dhcp client to just 'also send the hostname' and then the
client to get the current hostname itself, instead of having the name

Have to use a cron job once a minute to keep /etc/resolv.conf using the
localhost for name resolution - whenever NetworkManager gets restarted
(usually only a system boot) it gets over-written.
It seems every distro has a different way of preventing NetworkManager
from replacing that file.
I found instructions for Fedora that

[PATCH server] add server-side groundwork for remote freeipa server
This lays 90% of the groundwork needed on the server side to support the use of a remote ipa server.
Leaving the option disabled in the installer until the necessary node integration(dns/keytab placementi location) is completed
Also apply:
[PATCH server] update ovirt-add-host to use ipa commands instead of kadmin.local
[PATCH server] separate ipa common tasks freeipa::common and rename

NetworkManager default route
Hello,
Why is it so, that NetworkManager allows, and in several cases I've had,
defaults to setting default route to several interfaces at the same time?
Had my fair share of problems with how 172.17.62.something interface
tries to ask for a DHCP lease from 193.something network. I know I could
set never-default to the interfaces, but I shouldn't have to do it to
every machine I had.

A distro around Shorewall
Hi all,
Currently at work we use a commercial product called "Gnatbox", which, I
believe, is a BSD derivative running on a floppy disk. They have a pretty
UI and all, but I''d feel much safer/happier with a GNU/Linux box and
Shorewall doing the same thing.
In fact, I''m doing something very close to this at home using Openwrt and
Shorewall on my WRT54G router, but I

My VMs don't get IP with libvirt and dnsmasq
Hello there,
I wanted to share a problem I'm having with libvirt, for the case someone
here could know how to solve it.
I'm using an Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, I have libvirtd already installed and I
think I got all the dependencies installed. So, I'm using virsh net-create
to create this network:
<network>

bridged network and networkmanager?
After a long time of trying to get the network working between a linux dom0
and a windows xp domU, I found a hint in the README.SuSE (in the document
folder /usr/share/doc/packages/xen of the SuSE rpm-package), that there are
problems using bridged mode of xen together with networkmanager. Switching
off the networkmanager indeed solved the problems. Are there any patches /
workarounds to get

From network-scripts to NetworkManager on a router : questions
Hi,
I'm running CentOS 7 on all my servers, in three different contexts :
1. simple local server
2. public facing server
3. router/gateway/firewall
I'm currently in the process of moving my KISS-style
network-scripts-style configurations to something more orthodox based on
NetworkManager.
Scenarios (1) and (2) caused no problems, but (3) is giving me some
headache. Let me

Home LAN server - dnsmasq
Hello all,
I'm testing a home LAN server inside Virtualbox - figured it'd be easier
to build (and fix) things inside a virtual sandbox first, and then
migrate over to a physical install once I have most of the kinks worked
out. The host OS is Windows Vista; the guest OS will be various Linux
distributions for education/entertainment purposes.
First, a little explanation on the

Set hostname via DHCP ?
Hi.
I just setup one of my machines as a DHCP server. I'd like it to handle
the hostnames of clients. Don't know if this is an orthodox thing to do
(feel free to add your comments :oD). Here's the server's relevant lines
of dhcpd.conf:
--8<-------

# Envoyer les noms d'h?tes aux clients

# Adresses statiques
