Same ip address assigned to two interfaces...
[i''m not clearly a network guru, but i''ve some knowledge... anyway i think i''ve arrived to my ``end point'''' here. Probably i''ve also done some big mistake, so please sorry me.] I''ve setup in a local branch of my office two servers, say radagast (10.27.1.2) and olorin (10.27.1.3). They share the same UPS and the same place, sitting at

Getting IP address of a lxc container via libvirt
Hello I wanted to understand if there is a way to get LXC container's ip address. - virDomainInterfaceAddresses API only works for qemu/kvm and not with the lxc driver. What other options do I have? Using enter-lxc-namespace is throwing this error: virsh -c lxc:/// lxc-enter-namespace <domain> --noseclabel /sbin/ifconfig libvirt: error : Expected at least one file descriptor

VM nic not taking IP address
I have a DomU as a firewall (using the Dom0 kernel). I hid the three nics from Dom0 and assigned them to the firewall VM. The firewall VM sees the three nics no problem. Eth0 comes up and grabs an IP automatically from my DHCP server, however eth1 and eth2 are configured with static IPs but they do not come up with an IP: Here is my ''ifconfig'': [root@fw01 ~]# ifconfig eth0

Betr.: Multiple IP Addresses in a single NIC
Hi, You need to issue two commands: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx /sbin/route add -host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx dev eth0 For example: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 172.16.1.199 /sbin/route add -host 172.16.1.199 dev eth0 You can even assign multiple aliases to one NIC (One of my servers has about 10 ip addresses): For example: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 172.16.1.199 /sbin/route add -host 172.16.1.199

can't ping to an internal IP through tinc's virtual interfaces
Hi. As I wrote some days ago (It worked! [Was: my two hosts don't see each other]) I succeeded at setting up a tinc VPN between two hosts (isivirtual and pamvirtual) I tried to ping from pamvirtual, the external machine, to an internal IP of 'isivirtual' but it doesn't work. Neither 'traceroute'. What's going on? At 'isivirtual' routing (ip forwarding) is

Sending traffic through Secondary IP Address
I have set up a secondary IP address in the same network as my primary. So eth0: 192.168.100.29 netmask 255.255.255.0 eth0:0 192.168.100.45 netmask 255.255.255.0 And indeed when I invoke an apache instance that listens on the secondary IP address/interface it works, and it also makes it outside the LAN since the default gateway is defined in the routing tables for 192.168.100.0/24. But

bridge with IP address, "received packet with own address as source address"
Hi, I''ve set up identical (what I think) machines using SLES 10 x86_64, but a new one of those is saying frequently in /var/log/messages: kernel: bond0: received packet with own address as source address A short summary of ifconfig looks like this: bond0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:4F:2A:12:9C inet addr:132.199.176.78 Bcast:132.199.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0 eth0

Problem with Bridging ... and bge devices under FreeBSD 7.x?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm trying to run a QEMU VM on top of a FreeBSD 7.x server ... I've tried the exact same setup on my desktop, using 192.168.1.x and an fxp device, and it all works perfectly, but as soon as I do this on another machine on a public IP, I'm not getting any routing, I can't even ping it from the same machine ... book on tinc
Hi Ivo and Guus, We are writing a book on building VPNs for Linux and a part of it describes tinc. I wanted to make sure that your opinion, as tinc authors and developers, is reflected. First, let me ask a couple of technical questions. 1. If there are two hosts, foo and bar, that are to be connected via tinc, and each host should only have _one_ IP address (i.e. nmask is /32), would the

ip addr add vs ifconfig eth0:1
A stupid question: which is recomended? I have 1 interface eth0. I need to set about 20 virtual interfaces eth0:xx on it. If I create them with ifconfig eth0:xx I see it with ifconfig and with ip addr ls. If I set it with ''ip addr add'', ifconfig don''t show them, but ''ip addr ls'' and ''route'' show them. So, which is better?
