OpenOffice or LibreOffice?
Given that the Document Foundation has now split away from Oracle to continue the development of an independent office suite, do we have any idea which was CentOS and Red Hat are planning to go in this area - OpenOffice or LibreOffice? I know that LibreOffice is not production ready yet - they only have their first beta available, but it's just a matter of (likely a short) time before the

OpenOffice ods spreadsheets in R?

I've tried the ROpenOffice package from omegahat, but unfortunately, the read.ods() function attempts to use the values of the first column in a worksheet as row names, and thus does not allow duplicates in there (which, even more unfortunately, occur in my files). Also, the function does not allow to forward any other

RExcel, ROOo and LibreOffice inquiry
Dear all I'd like to give RExcel a decent spin, mainly to take advantage of Excel's data management facilities and automatic recalculations. However I cannot use this Windows-only solution on the platform of my choice, Linux. Alternatively I've been considering the cross-platform ROOo, the OpenOffice equivalent of RExcel, but in this case the problem is that the only release available

Does LibreOffice need to be patched to remove upstream "supplied by" text?
I just noticed that if I click "Help / About" in LibreOffice Writer (and likely other LibreOffice apps), I see: This release was supplied by Red Hat, Inc. Copyright (C) 2000 - 2013 LibreOffice contributors and/or their affiliates LibreOffice was based on OpenOffice.org I know several packages are patched to remove ambiguity as to who supplied the package; should this be one of them?

USB thumb drive for CentOS 7.7 to install
I took the "everything" iso and did the dd command to my 16G thumb drive. I booted and entered my usual ks=http://xxx on the boot line. All good so far. It gets my kickstart file and installation begins. At some point it says Installing libreoffice-opensymbol-fonts (492/1948) Retrying download of 1:libreoffice-opensymbol-fonts-5.3.6.1-21.el7.norarch then after 10 retries it fails. I

libreoffice
CentOS 6.3, libreoffice-core-3.4.5.2-16.1.el6_3.x86_64, running kde I had a couple of documents up. From a terminal window, I ran soffice to look at a document I'd just received in an email*. Looked at it. Killed the soffice session... and the other docs closed, and libreoffice shut down. Anyone else seen something like this? mark * For extra measure, I know that I've put *.docx in

OpenOffice.org 3.1 installation was corrupted-installed again, nothing in Applications/Office menu
I had a corrupted installation of OpenOffice.org 3.1. When I used "yum remove openoffice.org-core" the response was "package openoffice.org-core available but not installed", but then, when I used "yum install openoffice.org-core there was a long list of Transaction Check Errors. I then removed openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-noarch which was in the errors. Here's the
