finite mixture modeling
Hi all, I have a question, is there any R package dealing with latent transition analysis with both categorical and continuous indicators? So far what I found from GOOGLE are only packages dealing with latent class analysis. So what about the longitudinal situation? Any way we could look at the transition from one class to another across time points? Thank you very much. ya [[alternative

check if excel file is
Hello again, I'd like to determine if an Excel file is open or writable. Can anyone help me with that? I write some stats to an .xlsx Excel file using the xlsx package. I can't write to the file unless its closed. How do I determine if the .xlsx file is open or closed so I can write to it? I've looked at file.info and file.access and I couldn't get those to work for me. Any

EM for missing data
Hi list, I am wondering if there is a way to use EM algorithm to handle missing data and get a completed data set in R? I usually do it in SPSS because EM in SPSS kind of "fill in" the estimated value for the missing data, and then the completed dataset can be saved and used for further analysis. But I have not found a way to get the a completed data set like this in R or SAS. With

How to construct a formula
Hi, I need to construct a formula programaticly, and pass it to a function such as the linear mixed model lme. The help says it requires "a two-sided linear formula object describing the fixed-effects part of the model" but I do not know how to create this formula. I have tried various things using formula(x, ...), as.formula(object, env = parent.frame()) and as.Formula(x, ...)

factor score from PCA
Hi everyone, I am trying to get the factor score for each individual case from a principal component analysis, as I understand, both princomp() and prcomp() can not produce this factor score, the principal() in psych package has this option: scores=T, but after running the code, I could not figure out how to show the factor score results. Here is my code, could anyone give me some advice please?

Public R servers?
Hello, Earlier I posted a question about memory usage, and the community's input was very helpful. However, I'm now extending my dataset (which I use when running a regression using lm). As a result, I am continuing to run into problems with memory usage, and I believe I need to shift to implementing the analysis on a different system.. I know that R supports R servers through

creating a contingency table from a data.frame automatically (NOT BY HAND)
Hello there! I am still struggling with a binomial response over all categorical variables (some of them with 3 levels, most with 2 levels). After initial struggles with glm's (struggle coming from the data, not the actual analysis) I have decided to prefer contingency tables. I have my data such as: response:

Conjoint in R
Hello all, I am trying to apply a conjoint analysis in order to determine the best profile that captures the most preferred combination of levels of given categorical factors. For this a set of factors is given and initially a fractional factorial design has to be produced as a subset of all possible factor levels combinations, sufficient to estimate the main effects utilities. Then the

The most cost effective and Asterisk friendly T.38 gateway ?
Hi, Which is today, according to you, the most cost effective and Asterisk friendly T.38 ISDN-PSTN gateway for someone looking to build enterprise class services ? I've been thinking of Audiocodes, Mediatrix, Cisco boxes but PCI cards inside Linux computers would either be OK from me. The capacities I'm looking for are : - SME range: 1 x BRI and a couple of simultaneous fax calls -

lm with an arbitrary number of terms
Hello folks, Any ideas how to do this? data.frame is a data frame with column names "x1",...,"xn" y is a response variable of length dim(data.frame)[1] I want to write a function function(y, data.frame){ lm(y~x1+...+xn) } This would be easy if n was always the same. If n is arbitrary how could I feed the x1+...+xn terms into lm(response~terms)? Thanks Richard -- Dr.
