Upssched not getting called from UPSMON
Where syslog output ends up is an OS specific question and depends upon the configuration of the system logger in use.
On most systems the logging information will be found in /var/log. On most Linux systems, the default system log is /var/log/messages.

col2rgb() function
Just one addition which may or may not be useful: The color palette you
use is also known as "Okabe-Ito" and it is the default set of colors in
the palette.colors() function. This function also has an optional alpha
argument. So if you want to generate these colors with an alpha of 0.3 you
can also do:
palette.colors(8, alpha = 0.3)
or more explicitly
palette.colors(8, palette =

ext3 over aes crypted loopback on partition
I'm looking at running an ext3 filesystem on top of a loopback AES
encrypted device, which in turn is on top of a raw partition (so no
other things in the way that should be reordering writes).
Are there likely to be any strange issues with using ext3 in this way?

RH7.2 journal creation
Stephen et al,
You may remember me raising the point that the new e2fsprogs (1.25 as I
remember) griped about old journals not having all the appropriate
fields zeroed.
I've just discovered that the RH 7.2 installer produces journals (ie on
partitions created as ext3 from within the installer) that flag these
warnings with a modified 1.25 e2fsck (the mods being to clear the errors

[seeking help in using openssh to communicate b/w unix & windows. URGENT!!!]
You might try the free SSH client, putty (from:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/). It has a command line
SCP client (pscp) that will allow you to securely copy the file from Unix box,
under windows. I've used it and had excellent results.
Good luck,

Filesystem requirements
What are the filesystem requirements for dovecot - for example I see
some people are running with atime updates switched off (as I intend to
do so myself), so presumably dovecot has no need of an accurate atime
implementation.
How about directory atime? ctime/mtime etc?
I'm intending to run on a linux box using local disk, so am currently
considering using reiserfs (3.6) with noatime,

HA heartbeat scripts
Has anyone worked with getting dovecot to work in a HA cluster using
heartbeat? If so do you have any magic startup scripting or other
special sauce?
[I'll be playing with this over the next couple of days, although
concentrating on pop for our requirements. I can post any scripting I
produce]

OT: Win2k ts - cannot start microsft outlook
This is off-topic so please let me know if it is inappropriate. I thought
i'd post here as a lot of people on the list seem to be using samba with ms
terminal server.
I have profile problem ito roaming profiles from my samba dc not loading
when you log onto w2k terminal server.
I reloaded one of the servers, installed sp4 and installed ms office 2000

Challenge response authentication and PAM
As an experiment I set up Challenge/response authentication on a Linux
system with PAM using a pam_opie module (this module works fine with
console logins and su).
I can log into the box using the opie password, *but* it does not give
me the challenge - which can make things a little tricky :-)
I can well believe this might be a fault in the PAM pam_opie module I
am using, so has anyone got

[PATCH] Fix on Cyrus SASL support for Rel 0.99.11
Code which supports cyrus SASL library (src/auth/mech-cyrus-sasl2.c)
is broken. Following is the workaround patch for Dovecot Rel 0.99.11,
and it worked fine on FreeBSD 4.10 BOX.
It will not work with current development version.
Application for that version might not be so difficult.
Recently I found the CVS log which appeals that cyrus SASL support is
discontinued. It's very sad.

Strange behaviour regarding timestamps when copying files
Hi all,
we observed a strange effect when copying an file within a samba
share: Both atime an mtime of the target file are set to the mtime
of the original file. The atime of the original file is updated to
the current time.
1. Status of the original file:

File: `test.txt'

Suspiciously broken filesystem
I appear to have a broken filesystem on this box to the point where I am
probably going to rebuild the system since I have lost trust in it.... I
was wondering if there was any reasonable postmortum work I could do on
it before it gets rebuilt.
History is that the laptop has a much mauled partition set on it -
initially it came with 100% win2k, I then shrunk that and added linux (a

asp''s application object rails equivalent?
In asp there''s a built''in object, Application, which behaves like the
session, but it allows you to share information among all users of the
application.
It''s just like if every user would be accessing the same session.
what is the rails equivalent?

Question about syslinux EFI alpha version
Dear list,
I would like to add and test EFI boot support for a live system. Since I
use isolinux and syslinux for everything, I would be glad to have
syslinux.efi as boot loader for EFI-only machines, so I can just keep
all syslinux.cfg files, help files and boot screen as they are.
I checked out version 6.00-pre git of syslinux (the "firmware" branch)
and was able to compile efi32 and
