how to update glib-2.28.8 to glib-2.40.0 or newer version
Hi,
I'm trying to build gstreamer sdk on centos 6.7. When configure is run for 'gstreamer-1.8.2.tar.xz' on centos 6.7, error messages are reported as below:

Rebuild gstreamer
Hi all,
I have a need to rebuild the gstreamer and gst-plugins in CentOS 7.
So I found the wiki for rebuilding a source package...
I downloaded the vault.centos.org files, installed them with dependencies.
I did the rpmbuild -ba for each of the four packages. All seemed to go well.
No errors reported.
However - the /usr/bin/gst-inspect* listing shows the files as OLD
ls -l /usr/bin/gst-inspect*

where is glib-devl x86-64?
I dunno. I guess it could be. Went to the Gimp site and saw that glib-devel
was mentioned there.
My tired old brain is a bit confused by this, since most other -devel
packages put -devel following the program/package name, and gimp doesn't.
I'll give that a try, though, to see if it takes care of my issue. Thanks!

where is glib-devl x86-64?
I have a brand new installation of Rocky Linux 9.1 (I know, this isn't a
Rocky mailing list, but I can't find anything on this on Rocky forums, etc.
so I figured I would ask here),
and I installed Gimp, and would like to install the Resynthesizer plugin
package.
Trying to compile it from source, autogen.sh complains that I don't have
the gimp development libraries installed. In fact,

[PATCH libnbd v2] examples: Include an example of integrating with glib main loop.
This is working now, and incorporates all of the changes in Eric's
review, *except* that it still doesn't retire commands (although this
seems to make no obvious difference, except possibly a performance and
memory impact).

Does elrepo fix google-chrome requirement for newer glib and GTK
Has anyone tested installing the newer kernels from elrepo (or
somewhere else) in order to keep google-chrome updated beyond version
27? Actually, i assumed a newer kernel would come with a newer glibc
but i do not see a newer glibc via elrepo, just newer kernels. hmmm.
# yum --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=elrepo* info glibc | grep -i repo
only lists my already installed glibc packages from

Compiling Wine with a particular glib
Hi all,
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30557 breaks many games. I'd like a workaround. Maybe this is a terrible idea, but it seems to me that if I compile glib <2.32.0 and then compile wine linked to that particular glib than I wouldn't be having so many problems. I've compiled software (including wine) before, but I'm not so experienced

Any attempt do get past the ./configure for streamripper fails

copy/paste centos 6
I had to update all these packages on CentOS 6 for a project.
Everything works great on CentOS 6 - except - Copy/Paste between
applications.
Anyone - know which application below might control that function?
Example I cannot have firefox running and copy and paste text into
thunderbird.
Both applications - actually all applications work - I just cant copy/paste.
I'm thinking I did not

Build environment for totem-2.16.7-7.el5_6.1.src.rpm
This package has a build requirement 'gecko-devel' which is fulfilled by
'xulrunner-devel'. But in the process of building the browser plugins
two tools named 'xpidl' and 'xpt_link' are necessary. They werde once
part of 'gecko-devel' but are now replaced by other tools. I haven't
found any package that has these tools all the way back to 5.0.

Rebuild gstreamer
Gordon,
> Did you install the package that you built? "rpm -qf /usr/bin/gst-inspect"
All I did was the rpmbuild -ba for each of the items: gsteamer and the plugins.
I was expecting that command would build and install?
If that is not the case what do you run to install the package for
gstreamer and the plugins?
THanks,
Jerry

Trick to compile older packages
I am trying to add a package (I know its older - but it should work)
gst-rtsp-server-0.10.8 to CentOS 7.
The gstreamer 0.10 packages are included in C7 and they compile just fine.
When I extract and try to compile gst-rtsp-server 0.10.8 the ./configure
goes fine.
but the make results in errors:
make
make all-recursive

Problem compiling cairo-dock under CentOS 5.2
I am trying to compile cairo-dock from source (failing to find an existing
package for CentOS). I believe all dependencies are satisfied, but while
doing "make", at some point it says (I can provide the full make output if
it's needed):
gcc -g -O2 -o cairo-dock -Wl,--export-dynamic
cairo_dock-cairo-dock-callbacks.o cairo_dock-cairo-dock.o

yum install libstdc++-devel
On CentOS 4.5 (x86_64); happening on several different machines
with libstdc++ and libstdc++-devel v. 3.4.6-8
only one of the i386 or x86_64 versions of libstc++-devel is installed
if I
yum install libstdc++-devel
it will install the x86_64 version and remove the i386 version, but
not warn me. Similarly if the i386 version is installed it will
install the x86_64 and remove the i386,
