creating a domain
hi, i am a bit confused on how to start an inactive domain using the python bindings, any help would be appreciated. (inactive as in the domain was created with?virConnect.defineXML sometime in the past) looks like i have to use virDomain.create, however virDomain.create needs a defined domain xmldesc as a parameter and i am not sure on how to get that i guess if?virConnect.create was

free memory on hypervisor
i am trying to get the free memory on a hypervisor using libvert, with the python api bindings as per?http://libvirt.org/python.html, it should be pretty easy, however the below is failing: #conn is a connection object freemem=libvirt.virNode.getFreeMemory(conn) although this works fine: software=libvirt.virConnect.getType(conn) if software == ?'QEMU': logging.debug('hypervisor is

Re: libvirt-python Segfaults
Hi Harish, I believe the proper establishment of a connection should be done by libvirt.open() or libvirt.openAuth() or libvirt.openReadOnly(). All of them will return a functional virConnect instance. I'm not sure this segfault is worth to fix since instantiate a virConnect directly is not an expected usage. Hope this information will help you. Best Regards, Hao Liu +86-010-62608262

How to tell if a hypervisor connection has died?
Hi, What's the best way to tell if a virConnect object is not good to use anymore? (For example because the libvirtd on the other side crashed/has been stopped or because of some network failure) When I try this, the first API call I do on a broken connection yields an error with error number 38 (VIR_ERR_SYSTEM_ERROR) and all subsequent calls yield an error number 1

[libvirt] [LXC] Tyring to locate livbvirt operations for LXC relocation
Hello, I am searching for the libvirt operations for relocating LXC (system or application) containers. LXC relocation mechanism is done by checkpoint / restart. I went over libvirt API documentation and found the following methods: virDomainSave that receives a domain and path to state file. The method saves domain's memory contents into a disk file. virDomainRestore that receives a domain

Re: python-libvirt domain.destroy() doesn't appear to be working for me
I was simply following the examples in the python-libvirt repo. If those methods raise exceptions I'll definitely change to try/catch. Thank you. The maintainer of the repo should update the examples and documentation if exceptions are raised by those. On Mon, Aug 24, 2020, 05:31 Daniel P. unable to get domain list of KVM guests from libvirt as non-root user
I have a python script that monitors the guest VMs on a servers running Xen, but the script doesn't work properly on a server I just built with KVM. The script runs as a non-root user (same on all servers) and simply gathers some details on the status and names of the domains running on the host. The Xen and KVM servers are running CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and are using the same version of

Hello, I am using python bindings of libvirt. When I use the function listDomainsID( ) it successfully returns me the list of the ids of my current virtual machines, but when I call function listDefinedDomains( ) it returns me an empty list. Is this some kind of bug because as per my understanding listDefinedDomains should return a superset of vm's as returned by listDefinedDomains(). I am
