Horde + dovecot metadata support
Hello,
Horde (http://horde.org) has the ability to store its preferences direct into a users imap mailbox
using imap metadata extension. There are two implementations of the imap extension.
1. a dovecot plugin: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-metadata-plugin
2. dovecot itself: http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2013-November/093243.html
I setup Horde and dovecot-2.2.5 to use this extension and

Thanks.

how to handle logging
Hello,
I plan a migration to dovecot and have concerns about the amount of logged data.
On a testsystem dovecot produced 1TB syslog per day with a comparable amount of pop3 sessions.
The current server log to STDOUT which is connected to multilog
(circular buffer, http://cr.yp.to/daemontools/multilog.html)
That way I can have a look at the last activities to any time.
I like to have that in

concepts against amplification using dnssec
Hello,
Lutz Donnerhacke implemented DNS-Dampening.
http://lutz.donnerhacke.de/eng/Blog/DNS-Dampening
The implementation is available as patch for BIND9 only.
He told me that there is an other method preferred by the nsd developer.
It's called "Response Rate Limiting".
May one describe the idea behind rate limiting and compare it with Lutz' solution?
Thanks.

Converting mailboxes to UTF-8
Is any proven routine to migrate mailboxes from mUTF-7 to UTF-8 encoding?
I've try to use doveadm list/mutf7/rename but have been stuck with nested

.INBOX.&BDYESwRA-
.INBOX.&BDYESwRA-.&BE8ENARK-

2.2.4 + metadata plugin: autoconf failed
Hello,
I can compile metadata plugin using debian squeeze + wheezy.
But build on suse enterprise server 9,10 and 11 failed.
The metadata plugin require autoconf-2.65 which i too new.
On the other side I can build the dovecot-2.2.4 and pigeonhole-0.4.0 plugin without problems:
dovecot require autoconf-2.59 and pigeonhole does not require any specific autoconf version.
I asked the authors of the

Featurerequest for nsd4
Hello Wouter,
We used tinydns for many years. After migration to nsd3 we miss only one feature present in tinydns only:
tinydns may switch addresses by decreasing the ttl for old data and serve new data
starting from a fixed timestamp.
http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/tinydns-data.html:
You may include a timestamp on each line. If ttl is nonzero (or omitted),
the timestamp is a starting time for the

LMTP/Sieve/sendmail path
Hello,
I have a system using postfix multi instance feature.
The first, main postfix-instance is a nullclient as suggested by
http://www.postfix.org/MULTI_INSTANCE_README.html#split
The second instance is for real use. Postfix receive mail and handover them
to the dovecot lmtp server.
Thats working.
The lmtp server supports sieve. One account has activated a vacation rule.
So while delivering

“doveadm mailbox” command fails with UTF-8 mailboxes
Hello,
I?ve got a strange misconfiguration where the following command:
doveadm -f pager mailbox status -u spamutf8 'messages vsize guid' INBOX 'INBOX.*'
? fails with error code 68, saying that it can?t find one of the mailboxes. (It lists the user?s other mailboxes.) The name of the mailbox in question is saved to disk in UTF-8 rather than mUTF-7, but strace shows that doveadm

How dovecot treats UTF8 mailbox names in sieve scripts and `namespace' section
Hello.
I read on upgrading page that one can use UTF8 mailbox names for
plugins. As i understand i do not need to convert UTF8 names to mUTF-7
and can use raw UTF8 in plugins section, e.g.:
/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
...
plugin {
...
# Autocreate \Spam folder
autocreate = ????
autosubscribe = ????
...
But what about sieve scripts and other configuration sections:
1. Do i need to convert UTF8

Binary locations
Where do you think the following binaries should be installed to? The
possible locations are:
- bin/
- sbin/
- libexec/dovecot/ (or lib/dovecot/ in most Linux distros)
So the binaries are:
1) These probably belong to bin/ or sbin/ or both:
- authtest
- dovecotpw
- doveadm
2) Binaries that you might want to call from mail_executable setting:
- rawlog
- gdbhelper
3) Index file dumping

mail_log plugin logs UTF-8 mailbox name
A small bug in the mail_log plugin:
When I copy a mail from the inbox to a mailbox with special characters,
the mailbox name is logged in UTF-8:
[...] copy from INBOX: box=INBOX.Euro ?, [...]
I guess the name should be in mUTF-7, like it is done when I copy the
other way round:
[...] copy from Euro &IKw-: box=INBOX, [...]
