ask for help on nonlinear fitting
I have a table like the following. I want to fit Cm to Vm like this: Cm ~ Cl+Q1*b1*38.67*exp(-b1*(Vm-Vp1)*0.03867)/(1+exp(-b1*(Vm-Vp1)*0.03867))^2+Q2*b2*38.67*exp(-b2*(Vm-Vp2)*0.03867)/(1+exp(-b2*(Vm-Vp2)*0.03867))^2 I use nls, with start=list(Q1=2e-3, b1=1, Vp1=-25, Q2=3e-3, b2=1, Vp2=200). But I always get 'singlular gradient' error like this. But in SigmaPlot I can get the result. How

How to intepret a factor response model?
Hello, I'd like to create a model with a factor-type response variable. This is an example: > mydata <- data.frame(factor_var = as.factor(c(rep('one', 100), rep('two', 100), rep('three', 100))), real_var = c(rnorm(150), rnorm(150) + 5)) > summary(mydata) factor_var real_var one :100 Min. :-2.742877 three:100 1st Qu.:-0.009493 two

Ubuntu vs Mac OS X
Hi ! I have installed R-2.7.0 64-bits on a computer where the new Ubuntu version (8.04) was installed. This computer is a 3.2 GHz Dual-core with 2 Gb of RAM. To test how fast (I though !) this machine is, I compared two simple matrix manipulations between Ubuntu and my laptop (a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz with also 2 Gb of RAM under Mac OS X 10.5.2). By the way, I install the normal version of R

Read the data from a text file and reshape the data
I have a data set for different time intervals. The data has three comment lines before data for each time interval. For each time interval there are 500 data points. I want to change the dataset such that I have the following format: t1 t2 t3 ................ 0.00208 0.00417 0.00625 ................. a1 a2 a3 ...................

crossprod is slower than t(AA)%*BB
Dear Rdevelopers The background for this email is that I was helping a PhD student to improve the speed of her R code. I suggested to replace calls like t(AA)%*% BB by crossprod(AA,BB) since I expected this to be faster. The surprising result to me was that this change actually made her code slower. > ## Examples : > > AA <- matrix(rnorm(3000*1000),3000,1000) > BB <-

multi-class classification using rpart
Hi, I am trying to make a multi-class classification tree by using rpart. I used MASS package'd data: fgl to test and it works well. However, when I used my small-sampled data as below, the program seems to take forever. I am not sure if it is due to slowness or there is something wrong with my codes or data manipulation. Please be advised ! The data is described as the output from str()

Error with psi value for 'segmented' package for R
Hi everyone, while trying to use 'segmented' (R i386 2.15.0 for Windows 32bit OS) to determine the breakpoint I got stuck with an error message and I can't find solution. It is connected with psi value, and the error says: Error in seg.glm.fit(y, XREG, Z, PSI, weights, offs, opz) : (Some) estimated psi out of its range This is the code I am using:
