[new user] VPN or NAT? (and a FAQ)
I live in Tennessee, USA, and work 1000km away in Texas. Thanks to the
wonders of broadband I never leave home (well, not for WORK, that is.
:) I'm setting up an Asterisk system whereby I'll have an extension in
Texas, so clients can reach me at a local telephone number.
We have a VPN set up already (OpenVPN, which I highly recommend to
anyone needing such a thing.) It does

What is the best way to have "R" output tables in an MS Word format?
Dear "R" list,
Our statisticians usually give us results back in a PDF format. I would like
to be able to copy and past tables from "R" output directly into a Microsoft
Word table since this will save us tons of time, be more accurate to
minimize human copying errors and help us update data in our papers more
easily.
Do people have suggestions for the best way to do this?

Samba AD member and connections from non-AD systems
Hi - I've scoured the mailing list archives as well as other help sources online and haven't figured out what my problem is or what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Scenario:
I have a samba 3.5.5 server running on CentOS 5.5. This system is a member of an Active Directory domain. FYI, I am not the domain administrator, but I am an OU admin and can create

R warning and error messages taking a long time and generating pop-up windows
Hi all, thanks for your help in advance.
I was running some scripts and suddenly R began taking a very long time to process mundane errors, which I often generate since I am new to R...such as forgetting to add in my quote
getOption(warn)
Error in options(x) : object 'warn' not found
Not only does the warning message print in the R console when it finally writes the error, but it also

Question about --files-from= and folder structure
I'm writing a script to sync some mp3 files. Due to a limitation in the
number of destination files that can be read from my thumb drive, I'm
not looking to preserve the original file structure (actually, I'm
looking to sync *only the files* to the new destination directory).
The source files are all subfolders under /backup/Music:

Samba directory level security
Good morning all,
We are moving our web server from novell to unix (solaris) and will be using samba to allow users to edit web pages. Our samba instance authenticates using ADS and the users do not necessarily have accounts on the server itself. We are attempting to allow users to map a single samba share but only see the directories they have read access to (see configuration below). Any

Vector of Vectors
I have a matrix of data. I need to scan the matrix and find every
sequence from maxima to maxima across a row. I can write a loop to do
this easily. Problem is, I can't figure out how to store the results.
Each result is a vector of widely varying lengths. Ideally I'd like a
vector of these, i.e. a vector of vectors, so I can quickly iterate
through them and compute correlation

lanyrd site for useR! 2012
There's now a page on lanyrd ("the social conference directory") for
useR! 2012 in Nashville:
http://lanyrd.com/2012/useR/
its basically a site for making social mini-networks for conferences,
so people can post up links, share photos, list talks, etc.
If people going sign up then it'll look a lot better than UseR! 2011,
where only three people seemed to have attended - but

randomly sample within clustered data?
Dear useRs,
What is an efficient way to randomly sample from clustered data such
that I get equal representation from each cluster? For example, let's
say I want to randomly sample two cases from each cluster created by the
"id" variable in the following data frame:
> id<-c(rep("100", 4),rep("101", 3), rep("102", 6), rep("103",
