[panic] ipw and kismet
Hello, I almost always get a panic when running kismet on my ipw-Interface under 6.1-PRERELEASE. This has been the case ever since ipw hit the tree. Sometimes kismet works, sometimes it doesn't. A sure way to trigger the panic is to switch between bss/ibss/monitor mode prior to running kismet. Perhaps there is a bug in the re-initialization when loading a different firmware? Is this panic

MS Visio 2003 - Wine 1.1.10 - Ubuntu 8.04

I have tried to install using setup.exe and the setup app started all looked ok then right at the end of the install it crashed with a "cannot find the wscript.exe" I tried to start Visio and as if i couldn't work this out Visio didn't start. I started to look at the forums to see if someone

Trying to install MS Front Page
I'm a very new convert to Linux and have just installed Ubuntu 6.1/ Gnome. Because I need to run a couple of Windows apps, I also installed Wine and IE. Using winefile, I tried to install Front Page, but although everything looked as if it was going OK, it failed at the point where it was attempting to write Registry Values. The following screen opened on my desktop, which seems to be a log of

Dubious ifconfig / tcpdump behaviour
Hi, I have a FreeBSD 4.8 box connected to the net which until recently hasn't had any problems. Today DNS lookups mysteriously stopped working (the box has tinydns & dnscache installed to handle dns requests). I noticed some strange things while checking the problem with tcpdump. Tcpdump appears not to show any traffic whatsoever on either my external interface or internal lan interface,

OpenVPN ifconfig
I''m new to openvpn and maybe I should be asking on openvpn''s list... But I read the tutorial: http://www.shorewall.net/OPENVPN.html#id2452626 and saw the following: " On System A: ifconfig 192.168.99.1 192.168.99.2 " I don''t understand the reason for using these "virual" IPs. For instance, I configured openvpn on my peers so that the IPs on the

ifconfig hw ether and -arp
Hi, Just thought I'd mention that I spent a while battling with tinc today. I had quite a weird behaviour - in routing mode, tinc would come up fine on both hosts, but pinging hosta from hostb wouldn't work until hosta pinged hostb. I've used an earlier version of tinc before in a different environment with no problems, and vaguely remembered a more complicated tinc-up script, so I

"bug" with ifconfig ... ?
I just made one of my 4.x remote servers inaccessible and just tested it on my 5.x laptop, and it does the same thing ... not sure if this is considered a 'desirable' effect, or a but ... but ... 'ifconfig <device> -alias' will wipe out all IPs on the device: mobile# ifconfig -a lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask

wiki update : https://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS7 : FAQ 7: ifconfig/netstat
wiki name: HavardSorli Page for update : https://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS7 some notes / comments to: FAQ "7. What have you done with ifconfig/netstat?" "no longer install the net-utils package" I am not 100% sure, but I think "net-utils" is the wrong package name. I have checked Centos 4.9 and 7.2, ifconfig is part of the net-tools package # rpm -ql net-tools

Ifconfig ipv6:permission denied.
Hi! I installed CentOS 7 today, it's a minimal install, so it didn't have ifconfig command. So I installed net-tools, however I can't add ipv6 address to it. # ifconfig enp0s3 add fc00::1002/124 SIOCSIFADDR: Permission denied. Yes, I'm running as root. CentOS is running in a Qemu instance with e1000 ethernet card.

It's part of the IP address - so you put something like 192.168.0.1/24 for a 255.255.255.0 subnet. It's called a CIDR address. P.

netmask set with ifconfig doesn't hold
I gather that ifconfig is a way of setting the netmask in the current shell instead of a persistent value.? I say this because I am running it and see it for my specific network interface, directly after running it. However if I restart the network service the netmask is reverted to the previous value. What is the correct way to set the new netmask for the network interface to make it persistent.
