samba-tool domain backup offline stalls

The jail is not running anything other than sshd and webmin, as the netstat
results clearly show. The issue appears to me to be that samba-tool cannot
bind to that port even though it is available.

VirtIO disk 'leakage' across guests?
We are in the process of migrating several stand-alone

I want an advice
Hello
I've changed from Ms Windows 2008 R2 to CentOS 6 recently, and there are
many aspects to learn in relation to command line ( Bash scripting, package
system managing, file system and so on )...
I need to apply as much as I can of Network Infrastructure knowledge ( DNS,
DHCP and Virtualization .... ) concepts using CentOS 6 GUI...
I know that I must learn dealing with linux using

MailScanner and SpamAssassin
I acknowledge beforehand that this list is not the primary place to
discuss these specific applications, but I am pressed for time and
many of you have a great deal of experience with these two products.
We have MailScanner configured to use SpamAssassin and it works
exactly as we wanted. Up until now. I now need to allow messages
classified as spam to be delivered to a single mailbox. I

Dealing with brute force attacks
Over the weekend one of our servers at a remote location was
hammered by an IP originating in mainland China. This attack was
only noteworthy in that it attempted to connect to our pop3 service.
We have long had an IP throttle on ssh connections to discourage
this sort of thing. But I had not considered the possibility that
other services were equally at risk. Researching this on the web

No. The error is not caused by anything else listening on 137.

NUX Skype for Linux
I had cause to install the Skype for Linux package from the NUX repo.
I discover that this package is configured to automatically start
Skype whenever one logs on to the Gnome desktop. This behaviour I do
not wish. However, there seems to be no option in Skype to turn that
'feature' off. Is there any way to disable this in Gnome or elsewhere?
I will be removing Skype shortly when the

Problem with SSHD update.
This morning I applied the 13 or so new updates to my servers. On
one of them the ssh service and clients stopped working immediately
after the update. I restarted the server in anticipation that there
might be some instability introduced by updating on a system with
active ssh connections. However, this has not cleared the problem.
The packages in question are:

Q. LUKS or ecryptfs-utils ?
I am now investigating encrypting our IMAP user spool files. Does anyone have
experience with handling encrypted data stores using either or both of the
subject methods and would care tio share their observations? Which is the
preferred method (I know: it depends, but on what?)? What administrative
pain does each cause?
Our IMAP host is a KVM guest so spinning up a duplicate and simply

Skype and Sound
I have installed Skype 4.0.0.8 on my new workstation running
CentOS-6.3 (kvm) and the Gnome DTM. This host has an Intel DG43GT
motherboard with on-board audio. The sound works when tested in the
sound preferences in the desk top.
Skype runs and the integrated usb video and microphone both work (I
infer this from the mic test in Skype options showing movement on the

KVM as a desktop
I am nearing the end of a project that moved our disparate services
and hosts onto kvm virtualized servers. What I am now contemplating
is setting up my desktop as a virtual host and using one of the guests
as my primary workstation.
However, I am not sure how this would work in practice. I am
accustomed to working with virtual instances via ssh (a terminal
window) and with my desktop system in

Installing a gnome-desktop on CENTOS-6.3 following minimal system install.
I am still trying without much success to get a desktop on my minimal
+ virtualization install of a CentOS-6.3 kvm host. When I run startx
I get a desktop but other than the icons for computer, home and trash
there is nothing displayed. I can right click the mouse and from
there I can open a terminal window and creat a folder on the desktop
but I have no title bar and no status bar. There are

ssh -D socks proxy through CentOS-5
Is there anything special in the way of configuration that
is required to enable a CentOS box to act as the point of
origin for an http request routed to it via a SOCKS ssh
link?
I have researched this matter and the recommended
procedure is to open an SSH connection to the desired host
passing the requisite switches so:
ssh -f -n -D <port> user at host.domain.tld
And then reconfigure
