Centos 5.1
I'm about to try Centos 5 (first time user).
Question: I have the 5.0 CD-ROMs, so can I install with them and them
update to 5.1 via the internet, or should I use the 5.1 CDs?
Thanks.

Video Card
I want to be able to use a late-model video card with either Nvidia or
ATI (AMD) chips that have the capability to use the GPU for numeric
processing through the CUDA or AMD Stream SDKs.
I can't find any good source for hardware that really works under
Linux, not to speak of Centos. I need a specific model and brand that
a user has successfully been able to use the proprietary driver for

Video Card [SOLVED]
A recap of the problems for my configuration: Centos 5.2, x86_64, PNY
9600 GT 512 Mb video, Rosewill R913J 19" LCD monitor, Gigabyte
GA-P35-DS3L mobo, Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 Gb RAM.
Using the latest Nvidia x86_64 driver package (177.82) I could not get
the 1280x1060 resolution (I could get nothing but 640x480).
Additionally, while attempting various fixes, the monitor base color
turned blue.

Login Feature
I asked one of my team mates to evaluate centos 5.2 as a more stable
distro for our business use than Fedora which we have used for years.
His main objection so far has been the lack of a neat feature of
recent Fedoras (at least since 7) that allows a user to login as
himself if the screen is locked by another user (a switch user
feature).
Is that feature available or is it planned?
Thanks.

ss->translate > 0.001f makes my compiz working slow
plugin/switcher.c:1290: if (ss->grabIndex || (ss->zooming && ss->translate > 0.001f))
that line you have added 2006-06-06 and this made my compiz extremely slow.
I am changing it back to `if (ss->grabIndex || ss->zooming)' after every cvs update and it makes compiz working propely.

iptables logging
Hi All,
A few years ago I was asked if I could redirect console messages from
Iptables to a different virtual console, on RedHat 7.3 . I managed to
do it, but can't remember how I did it, now that the same question has
arisen ona Centos 3.4 box.
I edited /etc/syslog.conf and redirected kern.* to /dev/tty2 for example
& this didn't work
I edited /etc/sysconfig/syslog and modified

tty login hangs
Hi all,
I have two servers both identical in hardware and I have just done a
clean install of CentOS 5.2 x86_64 on both.
Sometimes (more often than not) when I log in at the physical console
(e.g. tty1, tty2, etc.) I will be logged in and it stops responding even
if the shell is not doing anything.
When this happens I can still switch to another VT with alt+f2 and login
as normal.
I don't

No text output in login console and shell
Hello,
I have a remote IBM x3550 M4 server that I try to remote control through
IMM2. The problem: only the blinking cursor is visible in login console.
It moves when I type. It moves to where "Login: _" should be if I press
ctrl+c. I can login if I enter the correct login and password, but the
shell that I get also shows only the blinking cursor and no text. I can
issue commands.

Cleaning Up My Process Table
I'm upgrading my primary server from RH 7.2 to CentOS-4.3.ServerCD. I
REALLY like the ServerCD. Who needs all the fluff that comes with a
standard distro? If I want a system-config-gooey I can run Xnest [1]
and ssh -X from my laptop. Anyway I have two questions:
1) How can I collectively stop all the NFS, portmap, whatever? I'm hoping
it can be manipulated as a group because occationally

I just recently adopted a server with Gentoo/Xen as domain0 server with several domainUs attached to it. Please forgive my xen-noobness, but I was hoping that someone can help me out.

Upgrade 4.1 --> 4.2 Question
Hi,
I am in the proces of upgrading my CentOS 4.1 servers to 4.2. I've burnt
CentOS 4.2 CD's from the ISO images (these images work because I already
installed a new server with it), but I am unable to upgrade the existing
servers to 4.2 using the CD's....
Does anybody have a clue, why this is not working... or is the online
update option the only one...
