facts about xen domU''s...
Hi, I''ve just finished my first attempt at making anything in ruby. It ended up beeing a module to facter, which collects facts about the number of domU''s and the memory, id and vcpu facts on all of the domU''s. It''s meant to be run on the dom0, and uses the xm utility to get the information. The only thing I haven''t figured out, is how to

error "Stack level too deep" on ''exec[ "perl Makefile.PL" ] ?
Hi, I''m testing puppet from the subversion trunk. I have a rather hacked-together system to install a CRM into one of my nodes, which worked (more or less) with version 0.19.3. When I tried to do a puppet run on a completely clean node it seemed to stall on the ''compilation'' part (I do an exec of ''perl Makefile.PL'' in the appropriate dir). When I broke

No networking
I''m trying to run puppet on a node I''m cloning from CD. No IP, no DNS, puppet with a standalone manifest and --use-nodes. I get dnsdomainname errors and a "Network is unreachable" error. I''m using 0.20, but I checked for new options in 0.23 and didn''t see one to turn off networking. Is this an option? Thanks.

Could not find definition vico_network
I''m trying to manage network files on two nodes, "vico" and "backup." The component "vico_network" below works fine. define vico_network ($owner = ''root'', $group = ''wheel'', $mode = ''644'', $cro_int = ''ne3'', $carp0_skew = '''', $carp1_skew =

Usability concern with overrides
I''ve been tinkering around with managing users and am concerned with the overall administrative usability of the inheritance overrides. For instance, the user games: redhat_base: user { games: ensure => present } local_site inherits redhat_base: User[games] { ensure => absent } This is fine, but imagine a few levels of nesting later with an admin that wants to ensure that a

services do not get restarted
Hello List, We are using puppet to manage a growing number of Debian Etch based servers (currently 70). Since upgrading to 0.22.4 we encountered a problem when services do not restarted on puppets request. For example the Nagios remote plugin executor daemon (nrpe). It''s running daemonized and its confiugration is located in /etc/nagios/nrpe.cfg. This file is managed through puppet

rollbacks
Has anyone done rollbacks with puppet? The story goes that last night I pushed a change out, which intentionally changed the way certain services where managed. The change involved pushing out a few files, cronjobs, etc., which was okay until it was discovered there was a bug with the service. My configurations are kept in subversion and rolling back to a previous configuration would have

"Found a bug" message when purging services
I attempted the following: resources { service: purge => true, noop => true } service { sshd: ensure => running; iptables ensure => running; } And got the following message: notice: Starting configuration run err: Found a bug: uninitialized constant Parse notice: Finished configuration run in 0.47 seconds When I remove the ''resources'' line, everything works

/etc/passwd
I would like to write up brief tutorial/documentation on how to manage /etc/passwd using puppet. While this may seem pretty straight forward to some...the documentation is not. We have been able to create a manifest that defines all of our users "virtually" and are able to "realize" users and add them to the system(s) running puppetd. Is there a way to simply realize all users

Puppet and Cfengine Differences
Hello, I''ve recently begun looking at Puppet as an alternative to Cfengine and I have a couple of questions. 1) Besides the information posted on the Puppet website, are there any critical differences between Puppet and Cfengine? 2) Does Puppet allow for client-specific file text manipulation. For instance, in Cfengine I can add a line of text to a file if the line doesn''t

Multiple overrides in one entry
Another override question: Is it possible to specify multiple overrides using a list/array? For example: User[games, baduser] { ensure => absent } I''ve tried various syntax manipulations, but nothing seems to work. Re: #786: exported resources not refreshed
Hello all, what exactly is the "design decision" that is needed here? We currently have the problem that 0.23.2-3 (debian package) does not work when it comes to collecting exported resources. The resources are saved in the database, so picking them up is the problem (db is Mysql5.x). This is a major problem for us, since we are using this a lot for our monitoring services. I

Problem with user type on 0.20.1... uses group "absent"
Hi, I''m running into a problem with the user type with puppet 0.20.1... this worked before with 0.19.x at least, not sure about 0.20. But I''ve got adduser.pp: <snip> define adduser($uid, $gid, $groups="users", $membership="minimum") { group { $name: gid => $gid, allowdupe => false, ensure

overriding included classes
I believe this has already been discussed[1], but I''d like to add a bit more to that original discussion and see if anyone has any suggestions. Here''s what I''m trying to do: we have a set of very thorough "wipe" scripts that run every night on our workstations. I''d like to stash these into a class so that I can include them as a group: class wiped

Selector syntax error on Debian Etch
Hi all, I''m having problems making some manifest work, and it''s so simple that I don''t know where the issue is: I get this error message when trying to load this vhost.pp file: "Could not retrieve configuration: Syntax error at ''}'' in file /etc/puppet/manifests/classes/vhost.pp at line 9" define vhost ( $domain, $admin, $docroot, $enable )
