logoutput attribute on exec type
so here I am trying to track down why one of my execs isn''t working properly
and I notice in the wiki[1]the option on_failure for logoutput. Turns out
it does''t work (in 0.23.0)
err: Parameter logoutput failed: Invalid ''logoutput'' value "on_failure".

Assistance Requested
Hello,
I am currently experiencing a bit of a quandry with how to specify default configuration applications to generic nodes.
Here is an example setup:
Classes:
Class A
Class B inherits Class A
Class C inherits Class B
Problem:
I have unique hosts (nodes) X and Y and a bunch of other standard hosts. I would like X and Y to be able to override attributes in Class C (thus inherit class C) but

Problem enforcing permissions on remote file copy
Hello,
I have been attempting to do the following:
file { "/home/test/test.txt": owner => test, group => test, checksum => md5, source => "puppet://puppet/files/test.txt" }
At first, this appeared to work, but now I realize that when the file is copied from the server, the permissions are not applied until the next puppet run.
Does puppet not apply the

Is there a limit on the size of a template?
Hello,
I have recently run across the following error:
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/yaml/rubytypes.rb:315: [BUG] Segmentation fault
This has happened after adding a particularly large template file with ruby 1.8.1.
Thank you,

Re: Subscribe to multiple files - Modification
Hello,
I apologize for the duplicate post, but I made a typo last time.
I am trying to notify the service, not subscribe to it.
Also, I found that notifying a service, in this case nfs, appears to cause the service to load even if the service is configured to be disabled.
Is this supposed to happen, or should the ensure => stopped state be enforced even during a notify?
Thank you,

modulepath not working with environments
I''m testing the new environments feature in 0.24.1.
http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/UsingMultipleEnvironments
But I am having a problem getting it to recognise the modulepath setting
within the environment.
I''m wondering if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong
For this example, the environments are called "prod" and "test".

Monitor power save question
I decided to try the x86_64 version of CentOS 5 on my new desktop since
it has an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. The one really perplexing oddity is that
the monitor no longer goes to power save mode (standby) if the system is
idle long enough (e.g., overnight).
The "power management" option is set to put the display to sleep after
thirty minutes. The display gets blanked but it never goes to

Will Firefox 2.X be included/supported in CentOS 5?
I know this mostly depends on what is/will be done upstream, but with
the recent announcement that Firefox 1.5.X will only receive updates
until April 24, 2007, is Firefox 2.X in CentOS' future?

Sweave - problems with underscores in variable names...
Hi all,
I've just started using the Friedrich Leisch's Sweave package to
generate LaTeX reports with results of my analyses embedded as
required.
I've encountered a bit of a problem though in the processing of the
resulting *.tex file that is as far as I can tell, down to the fact
that my variable names have underscores ('_') in their names.
The relevant section of code

Yumrepo''s subscribe ran before package require Yumrepo?
I am trying to set a "subscribe" for a Yumrepo object so that an Exec "yum
clean all" is ran immediately after a Yumrepo is changed. With the following
setup, I am not seeing the "subscribe" fire off until after Packages that
have a require pointing to the Yumrepo["custom"] are attempted to be
installed.
Is in right to expect that the subscribe on the

Some trouble with file and source
Is it possible to have two files that source the same puppet-hosted file in the same File description?
Example:
[ "/etc/issue", "/etc/issue.net" ]: owner => root, group => root, mode => 644, source => "puppet://puppet/files/issue"
Should this work, or am I doing something wrong?
Thank you,

Editing the references
Hi all,
I''ve just noticed that two wiki users edited the wiki reference
documents. One of these edits (to the function reference) was a good
edit but would have been overwritten if I did not find it. The other
edit (s/darwinports/macports/g) made the documentation incorrect,
since the provider actually is called darwinports (even if that
itself is a bug).
I haven''t

stream sounds like poo for no apparent reason
here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our
problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live
card. we are getting a nasty hum on the line in. the thing is we
plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and
when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the
question i ask where is the hum coming from? we are

yum hangs when Reading Local RPMDB
All of a sudden yum hangs on a Centos 4.5 (updated to the latest patch
before 4.6) when I try to use it. "clean metadata" didn't help.
The output of -d5 shows it gets to the point of "Reading Local RPMDB" and
then sits there. The process doesn't die, but doesn't seem to do anything
from that point on. strace shows this: futex(0xb76dcae8, FUTEX_WAIT, 2,

Silly question about 5.1
I just rebooted my desktop system to pick up the 5.1 kernel, etc. One
oddity I noticed is that the contents of /etc/redhat-release still says:
[root at bend etc]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5 (Final)
but:
[root at bend etc]# rpm -q --whatprovides /etc/redhat-release
centos-release-5-1.0.el5.centos.1
On my CentOS 4 box, /etc/redhat-release says:

using an image as a dendrogram label
Hi, does anybody know if it is possible to use an image (rather than
text) to label the leaves of a dendrogram? I realize that this will
not always lead to a useful on-screen display, but ideally I'd like
to directly go from the dendrogram to a PDF and on-screen viewing is
not to too important for me. Also, my trees are relatively small.
Any pointers would be apreciated

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the
network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly
identified and assigned what appears to be the right Broadcom device
driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up.
Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom
except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta
