Using ruby-1.9.x with Puppet 0.25.x
I read somewhere recently about problems with Puppet and Ruby 1.9.
I''m wondering if this is still an issue?
Thanks.

lsbdistcodename and Debian Squeeze
Hello all,
I use puppetmaster on a Debian Squeeze server (packaged from Debian 2.6.2-4)
I am using a template for Debian Servers which works great for Lenny
in order to update my sources.list automagically, here goes:
deb http://ftp.ie.debian.org/debian <%= lsbdistcodename %> main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ <%= lsbdistcodename %>/updates main
Now the problem

OpenVZ configuration of networking with puppet - big crash
I am trying to streamline the current distribution specific setup and
creation of VE''s within OpenVZ with puppet. My first attempt has gone
horribly wrong as you will see below. Here''s the script I wrote to
replace the redhat specific setup that OpenVZ used:

Nested conditions
Hello,
I have a file which varies depending on which
OS/version it''s running. I tried to make a nested
source parameter like this, but it didn''t work:

"puppet://myserver.com/files/os/debian/etc/ssh/sshd_config",
Gentoo =>

neatest way to determine a major version of centos/linux?
Just started a rollout of centos 6.x across our Puppet deployment
(100-odd servers).
what fact would people suggest I use to distinguish 5.x from 6.x
(quite a lot of subsystems are different between major releases)?
lsb* facts don''t seem to be present on centos 6 - is this an EPEL bug,
or have they
just been removed in Facter?
Thanks!

Newbie stuck on facter not finding hostname
Hi all,
I''m trying to get puppet working for the first time, and I''ve run into
something that''s got me stumped. This is all on Solaris 10/x64. The
initial startup of puppetmasterd wasn''t working, and it appeared to be
related to the SSL certs not getting generated properly. I managed to
trace that down to the fact that facter isn''t finding the

facter lsbdistid returns no result
Hi all, I am creating a recipe for rhel boxes which needs to
determine what type of install is present (server or client). I
thought I would use the facter fact lsbdistid for this purpose but
when I run "facter lsbdistid" from the command line nothing is
returned. If I just run facter and grep for lsbdistid, what I am
looking for is returned. Does anyone know why this might be?

Facter 1.6.9 complains about "No LSB modules are available."
Hi,
it seems that Facter 1.6.9 complains that "No LSB modules are
available." on every run. This is on Ubuntu 10.04 and 12.04, probably
others as well. This message (on stderr) usually comes from calling
"lsb_release -v" when no additional LSB modules are installed. Facter
apparently calls "lsb_release -v -s" in facter/lsbrelease.rb.
This is neither fatal nor

Puppet node fails to pass facts to master
Hello Puppet list,
I am taking over the puppet configuration of a sysadmin who left, and
am having troubles deploying puppet to a new node. We are using puppet
v2.7.3 both on the client and the puppetmaster, on Ubuntu 10.10.
The node asks for a certificate fine, and I signed it on the
puppetmaster.
For the following logs extract I ve replaced the FQDN of my node by
puppet.example.com.

i was running a few natty systems and upgraded one of them to oneiric.
Facter shows the right lsbdistcodename, lsbdistrelease, etc.
parameters, but when i''m running puppet agent the modules has access
to the previous (natty, etc.) values. As i see on puppetmaster in /var/
lib/puppet/yaml/{facts,node} the output from facter and the agent is
cached and won''t update

Facter and arrays
Hi,
Is it possible to have an array as the output of a custom fact? And
then to pass it into a template in Puppet?
I currently have a fact that looks like this:
Facter.add("exports") do
setcode do
case Facter.hostname
when (/thishost/i):
[ "/local", "/local2" ]
end
end
end
& a template like this:

Unnecessary changes when creating facts.yaml
I have set up puppet to create a facts.yaml file for mcollective using the
following line:
content => inline_template("<%= scope.to_hash.reject { |k,v| k.to_s =~
/(uptime.*|timestamp|.*free|macaddress.*|ipaddress)/ }.to_yaml %>"),
However, it is creating a lot of unnecessary changes by reordering the
facts in the yaml output as you can see in the diff output between to

Facter Strings to integer.
Hello,
If I want to do something like this:-
if $::lsbdistrelease >= 6.3 {

}
Do I have to convert lsbdistrelease from a string to a number with an
inline template or some such ?
Thanks

puppet does not speak french ;)
i got a little idea there,
should not puppet use environement LANG=C when managing facts or
packages etc... ?
i have LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
and puppet choke on quite a few facts (erors messages with uname for
exemple: Pour en savoir davantage, faites: « uname --help ».
) and also with packages updates :

facter --yaml leaves some fields blank
Sometimes "facter --yaml" doesn''t list all the values specified on the
command line. I can''t find rhyme nor reason why. Here''s a demo to
show what I mean:
# facter --version
1.5.7
# facter --yaml fqdn macaddress lsbdistcodename
---
fqdn: my.host.name.example.com
lsbdistcodename: squeeze
macaddress: "00:00:00:00:00:00"

Puppet facter operatingsystemrelease
Hello,
I am running puppet server version 0.25.4-2, and since Debian squeeze
is the new stable release I would like to adapt some of my modules.
I have a syslog-ng module, I would like to specify another template
for my squeeze server.
I changed my init.pp as follow :
if ($operatingsystemrelease <= 5.0.8) {
$syslog_template = "syslog/syslog-ng.conf.erb"
}
else {

Facter ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact.
From looking at the Facter code, it looks like the
''operatingsystemrelease'' fact is currently a mirror of the
''kernelrelease'' fact.
I''d like to implement this fact so that it returns the major version of
the operating system, eg:
Debian Sarge: operatingsystemrelease => 3.1
Debian Etch: operatingsystemrelease => 4.0

This is great, however I ran into something strange with this. It
