A little help with yum.d repo files
I'm new to CentOS. I was running Fedora core 3 before I installed CentOS
5.0.
I'm looking at the files in CentOS /etc/yum.d and the same files in
Fedora 3. I'm a little confused as I have never looked at yum before. I
now have a full time connection so now I can use yum.
I have been looking for supported rpms for XEmacs and Gnucash.
What repos do I need to add to obtain these two

4.3 to 4.4 and Yum and Upgrade vs. Update
I'm wondering about yum update vs. yum upgrade. The man page says use
upgrade (actually the obsoletes flag which is set in upgrade and not
update) when doing something like a linux 8.0 to linux 9 upgrade.
Something we can't do with CentOS, i.e. 3 to 4. So, is it better to use
update or upgrade when going from 4.3 to 4.4? Doesn't RedHat call these

yum udpate not getting new kernel
On one notebook (so far), I have not picked up the new kernel:
kernel-2.6.18-92.1.22.el5.i686.rpm
I have gotten it on some notebooks.
So far the only difference I can see between the systems that MIGHT
matter is those that got the update were new installs and had not
reached 3 installed kernels. The one that failed already had 3 kernels
in /boot. But I seem to recall this was about how

Yum segmentation fault updating from 5.6 to 5.7
I'm trying to update my CentOS 5.6 boxes to 5.7, and on every single one
of them yum is failing with a segmentation fault: the error happens when
yum is checking the 'base' repository.

best way to ensure (yum) package repository freshness ?
Hello,
I have run into problems in the past where a package has been added to
our yum repository, and a (new) class has been pushed to install that
package, but puppet fails because the yum db on the target machine is
too stale, and thus isn''t aware of the existence of the new package.
My question is this : what have other Puppet admins done in order to
ensure that a target machine

Yum upgrade to 4.4 problem
CentOS 4.3 (SMP, x86_64, Athlon64 X2) with all pre-4.4 release updates
applied.
Since I ran into the Yum issue at the previous upgrade, I first did
yum upgrade to get the list of packages (6 to install, 206 to update).
I then did
yum upgrade yum (which passed without issues)
yum upgrade sqlite (which passed without isseus).
Fairly certain that yum now works correctly, I wanted to just do

sqlite3 and rspec_on_rails tests
As I think I previously mentioned, there is an incompatibility with
rails 1.2.1 and sqlite3 3.3.8.
see: http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2007/1/29/using-sqlite3-with-rails
and: http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/2007/2/6/rails-1-2-2-sqlite3-gems-
singular-resources
Sqlite is now at 3.3.13.
Because of this, if a developer is trying to create a patch for
rspec_on_rails, he will have one of the

Gnumeric
Hi,
I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It
complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested
installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I
did that, now I still get:
dependencies failed:
libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds.
Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for
gnumeric?
I have tried Dag, he does not, he

Rollbacks, Sqlite3 bug. Has this been reintroduced ?
Hey,
I just updated from the edge and it looks like this _issue_ has resurfaced.
Yesterday things were working (stories and specs).
No code base changes, only rspec and rspec_on_rails
After updating today I now need to set <config.txn...fixtures> to false in
the spec_helper.rb
to get the specs running, the stories are fine. Looks like the fixture
loading is trying to start a txn.

Need a package
I have rpms for xemacs 21.5.27-8.fc8. I *think* they will work on Centos
5? If not I can get the sources. However, at this point, I have one of
those dependency hell problem. I need, for now, libtinfo. Does anyone
now what package it is in?
Thanks,
Bob

Yum not updating kernel
I'm having the same problem as Valent Turkovic. I have the
following /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo (mind the line-wraps):

php-pear missing from 5.8 (i386) metadata?
Hi,
# yum install php-pear
<snip>
No package php-pear available.
Nothing to do
This is on CentOS 5.8 (i386). The package is available for both archs on
the two mirrors I checked. I also tried a
# yum clean headers
# yum clean metadata
# yum clean dbcache
to no avail. Am I missing something or is it the metadata?
Regards,
Leonard.

Rollbacks, Sqlite3 bug
Okay - so the sqlite bug reported a day or so ago on the list is real
bug. I''m going to file something in the tracker for that...
I also learned that before(:all)...after(:all) is not wrapped in a
transaction, the way before(:each)...after(:each) is. Is there some
reason behind this? Can you not wrap transactions inside transactions?

CPAN module install problem
I could use some assistance getting CPAN functional again. CPAN stopped
working on Centos 4.2 x64, and I can no longer install modules. I did a
install Bundle::CPAN and upgraded to 1.8.2, and perl was updated
afterwards via yum update. The error seems related to GPG, does anyone
know if 1.8.2 added new restrictions on signatures?

Yum breaks after updating to CentOS 4.6
Hi everyone,
Yum on one my CentOS systems has decided to stop functioning after an
upgrade to CentOS 4.6. It's complaining about errors with
Python-SQLite packages?
Any ideas anyone? Here is what happens.
