exec and notify
Are exec resources triggered by notify events supposed to be run once for every event received or only run once per run irregardless of the number of resources that notified it? It seems to me that it gets run twice no matter how many resources triggered it. consider the following class: class dhcp { $prefix = "/usr/local/etc/dhcpd" $dhcpd_conf = "$prefix/dhcpd.conf"

Facter environment variables being ignored in puppet?
Facter has the feature that it will turn any environment variable named FACTER_* into a fact. I can do this on the commandline no problem, but when I attempt this in puppet it seems to ignore that parts. Is anyone else seeing this? (Is this expected behavior?) I don''t see a ticket or a mail thread on it - though my searching powers have been weak the last couple of weeks... Thanks,

Puppet/webrick benchmark
We haven''t been able to use mongrel for testing yet, but in order not to waste time, we did some performance testing with 1, 2 and 4 puppetmasterd/webrick processes. Attached is an HTML page (ripped from our wiki - not pretty, but reasonably readable) which describes the method and results. If someone feels like making some nice graphs, that would be great. If not, I''ll try to

Schedule puppet runs
Hi All, I would like to pick your brains as to the best way to configure the below senario within puppet. I am currently configuring puppet for our environment and have seperated development/back office from production through configuring roles for each server to identify them as such. What i need to be able todo is have the production servers only update outside of office hours, but have the

puppetd daemon vs. cron
Hi, I''m running multiple vservers and have some aspects managed via puppet. I noticed that puppetd consumes from 20 to 60 mb RAM and the longer the process runs, the more RAM it takes. It looks like 60MB is the top what I measured. Having a couple of vservers (11 in my case) this can already take up to 500MB just for puppet! I''m wondering if there''s any downside in

Forcing puppetd ask puppemasterd for new changes
Guys, I seriously could not find this topic in the documentation. What do you do when you need to force puppetd hosts get the new settings from puppetmasterd? What I found was only sending USR1 signal to the client process in order to make it refresh its configuration from the master. But I find it a bit inconvenient for a large amount of hosts. There is also puppetrun which, if I understand

Foreman / External Nodes -- Node Not found
Hello All, So I finally got around to start to cut over node definitions from standard flat files to external nodes (foreman), and getting error message: "Error 400 on SERVER: Could not find node ''nodename''; cannot compile" - So basically it can''t pick up the node from the external node config. When I test the fetching of the yaml file it seems to work

getaddrinfo: Name or service not known
Hi. When running "puppetd --server <puppetmaster> --waitforcert 50 --test" on a puppet client we get the following error: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in `initialize'': getaddrinfo: Name or service not known (SocketError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in `open'' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:560:in `connect''

Trying to get tagmail to work
Hey guys, Relatively new to Puppet and I''m trying to setup tagmail to send all emails to me: at one point I''ll filter that down to errors and whatnot (based on tags) but for now I just want to get it working. Master Puppet server is setup with Passengers, all works well: /etc/puppet/puppet.conf [main] # The Puppet log directory. # The default value is

puppetd no-daemonize
So I have been trying to run puppet once in my kickstart %post scripts but every time it detaches and daemonizes even though I have explicitly stated otherwise. Am I missing something? # rpm -q puppet puppet-0.24.8-1 # /usr/sbin/puppetd --onetime --no-daemonize --verbose --debug debug: Creating default schedules debug: Failed to load library ''shadow'' for feature

Terminology
Hello folks, I''ve blended/updated the Glossary of Terms (<http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/GlossaryOfTerms>). It seems the definition of "manifests" is a bit different amongst members. Some people consider a "manifest" to be a configuration file written in puppet, e.g. any .pp file. But at my organization, we''ve considered the totality

puppetmaster built via puppetd
hi, i''m trying to set up my puppetmaster infrastructure with multiple puppetservers behind load balancers in each of our datacenters. i''m using 0.24.6. i''ve read the howto on puppet scalability, and i think i''ve got the ssl config working correct, but i''m noticing that when puppetd is used to build a puppetmaster, some of the files in $vardir/ ssl

"server" config option (and cmd-line option) don''t do anything for puppetd?
Hi guys, Unlike what it says in the documentation and the --help output, I can''t seem to get puppetd to use the --server setting. The only way I can get puppetd to work is to include a ''puppet'' alias to the ip of the machine I''m running puppetmasterd on in my hosts file. The strange thing though, is that the logs of my puppetmaster show that it *is* getting

Puppet-Dashboard nodes showing up as unreported
Hello, I have followed the documentation at http://docs.puppetlabs.com/dashboard/manual/1.2/bootstrapping.html to try to setup dashboard but after I manually add a node it shows up as unreported. The agent has successfully completed a very basic catalog run just adding a file to the file-system. Dashboard v1.2 Puppet puppet-server.noarch 2.7.19-1.el6 SERVER: -bash-4.1$ cat

Hello All, I don''t seem to be able to get reports to display on the foreman interface. I copied extras/puppet/foreman/files/foreman-report.rb to / usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/puppet/reportsforeman.rb, instead of /usr/ lib/ruby/1.8/puppet/reports/foreman.rb. classes.txt missing
Hi It seems like classes.txt file is not being created when I run puppet on my servers. I am running puppet without a puppet master. I use subversion to pull the manifests on each of the boxes and run this command to run puppet. puppet apply --verbose /path/to/manifest My puppet version is puppet 2.6.4. My puppet.conf file looks like this: [main] # The Puppet log directory. # The

Multiple environments
So I''m trying to get multiple environments to work with puppet 0.25.1 on ubuntu 8.04 and no matter what I do, puppet just completely ignores any environment setting. Please test export/collect from svn
For those of you out there using export/collect (which we really need to come up with a better name for...), can you test the current SVN code? I''m mostly wondering if the performance is any better. To use it, you''ll have to remove your current database, since the database schema is significantly changed. I''m getting what looks like an additional 25% reduction
