maildrop and multi-dbox
Hi there, I'm using Dovecot 2.0.9-1 under Arch Linux. Currently, I have Maildir configured, and I move all my emails into dovecot by using this sequence: 1) cron starts fetchmail periodically under user manfred to collect my mails from various email accounts. 2) In ~/.fetchmailrc I have configured /usr/bin/maildrop as MDA. 3) In ~/.mailfilter (used by maildrop) I have extensive filtering in

Syncronizing two IMAP servers
I spend time in two places, in different countries. I have a local network in each place, with IMAP servers on each network. I collect email by fetchmail from various servers, and read email on my laptop with KMail. I tried using just one IMAP server, but this proved impractical. So I have two collections of the same sub-folders, on the two servers. I have two questions: 1. Is there a simpler

Make Winbind/PAM not return domain part for usernames
Hi! I have a problem involving Samba4, exim4, fetchmail, dovecot and PAM... I have setup a "maildrop" machine, which fetches mail from an external POP3 server for multiple accounts and then serves them locally via IMAP. On the same machine, I am currently running Samba 4.0.9 over Debian Wheezy. The idea is that fetchmail gets the mail, passes it to exim4, gets delivered to the "AD

mail without mta
Dear list! I'd like to know if some- one has experience with system running no mta (aka sendmail). I have single comp, not server, not lan. Yes! Sendmail is nice, but it is too big for simple tasks I have for it. My intention is to use apps small as possible. This letter gone from mutt directly to ssmtp, that processed it to my isp. (Setting option for sendmail as

[OT] Fetchmail and Mutt help
Hi All, I setup Fetchmail and wanted to use Mutt to read e-mail. I used to use Pine and I just am sick of GUI e-mail clients these days. Bloat, complication and unreliable. Pine was my first ever e-mail client. I prefer to use POP still as I want may mail on my machine at all times. I can go into mutt and execute: 'fetchmail -v' and watch it bring down my e-mail. But in mutt i dont see

Disable PAM username change?
Hi! I have a problem involving Samba4, exim4, fetchmail, Dovecot and PAM... I am using Dovecot 2.1.7 on Debian Wheezy. I have setup a "maildrop" machine, which fetches mail from an external POP3 server for multiple accounts using fetchmail, delivers to local users mailboxes through exim4 and then serves them on the intranet via IMAP with Dovecot. This works great with local unix users,

Assertion failed in dovecot 0.99.14
Hi, I am using the dovecot imap server on Linux 2.6.8.1. I get the following error when running it: imap(quad): Panic: file index-sync.c: line 25 (index_storage_sync_size): assertion failed: (messages > ibox->synced_messages_count) This usually occurs when I use imapfilter to move messages from one folder to another, while my client (thunderbird) is connected. non-informative error message
Hello, The openssh client terminates with the following error message when unable to resolve a username: "You don't exist, go away!" Leaving aside style and tone, the message is not informative. Please consider changing it to something more appropriate and helpful, such as "Unable to resolve username". (The message appears in the files ssh-keygen.c and ssh.c, as of

Future enhancement of imap: sorting?
After solving a problem with a sweet little application I discovered (more on that below), I wanted to get some feedback about a potential enhancement for IMAP: standardized, MUA independant, server-side sorting. Currently, there are two basic solutions for sorting: handle it during delivery or handle it in the MUA. However, if you handle it in the MUA, you lose some of the client

some questions on dovecot or rather a mail system setup
Hi folks. Perhaps you find some time to look into this,... if you think I should better direct this do some dovecot mailing list,.. just tell :) I'm trying to plan my mail system and would have some questions. The overall idea is about the following: - There is a (internet) server, which is the MTA (which will be postfix) and imap and/or pop3 server (which shall be, guess, dovecot!). -

LDA vs maildrop... LDA *and* maildrop?
We're considering a move from Courier to Dovecot.? So far, looks like it's not too bad, but the most challenging obstacle is what to do about our local delivery.? Factors: 1. we use a lot of maildrop "features" that are impossible in sieve without piping to an external program (would rather not re-write our working maildrop scripts in another language) 2. would love to try
