mangled filenames
Hi all, I'm running Samba 3.0.31_1,1 on FreeBSD 7.0. I have a problem where some files on the fileserver appear to have illegal characters in them and so look mangled-up when viewed over Samba. Here's an example, listing files over Samba: rococo% ls PR Archive Awards ACD76Y~N <-- Inhouse folder AOBC8G~A <-- Outhouse folder Listing the same files directly on the

Puppet Best Practice
Hello everyone, A long time ago, I posted the Stanford Best Practices and I''ve gone through and updated it today. I''d like to have people go through it and see if we can strip out some Stanford specific stuff and tag this as an official best practice. I think an official best practice will be important as more and more people consider making shareable modules, etc (mostly

Is this ext3 or bad drive sectors problem?
Hello LINUX GURUS, I am fairly new to LINUX OS, so pardon my ignorance about LINUX OS. I have installed LINUX 7.2 on IBM netfinity 4000R server. OS works fine for few days and start giving me this error message all of a sudden: "kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { Driveready SeekComplete Error }" "kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=4944861,

My updated remotefile
I recently update my remotefile definitions (others might have already done so or have been using a better one than mine). I added an ensure parameter so I could do overrides using remotefile rather than the underlying file: define remotefile($owner = root, $ignore = ".svn", $group = root, $mode = 644, $source, $backup = false, $recurse = false, $ensure = file) { $realsource =

Wiki Notifications
Hello folks, I''ve finally figured out how to get the Wiki to notify of changes. Luke is going to work on getting a proper link in the header but for now, make sure you are logged in and then if the page you want to watch is at: <http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/GlossaryOfTerms> then in your browser URL, substitute "notification" for "wiki":

classes defined in nodes
I just discovered something interesting: node server.example.org { class A { ... } } The above doesn''t do anything. node server.example.org { include A class A { ... } } The above works. I was under the impression that classes defined within a node were assumed to be part of that node. I learned something new today. -- Digant C Kasundra

POP - preventing re-download with server move
Hi, Curious if anyone has any good suggestions to handle this. I try to get my hosting users to use IMAP but most use Outhouse and the IMAP support is somewhat annoying for many so I typically have them change their settings when using POP to leave copies on the server. That way when they get the inevitable virus or wanna use webmail they have a backup copy and webmail sees their saved mail.

Could not describe errors
Hello community, We are running puppetmaster 0.22.3 with 45 servers attached and we are seeing a lot of messages that say: (err): Could not describe /ssh/sshd_config.RedHat: End of file reached: We were seeing a lot of this with 0.22.1 as well. Interestingly, during the stretch where we were running 0.22.2 (most of April until 2 days ago) we didn''t see this error at all or very

Can SAMBA be used to map a WINDOWS directory to a UNIX SERVER (pa rticularly SOLARIS)?
Hi: We were wondering if SAMBA can be used to make a windows share look like a UNIX filesystem to the UNIX server? I know it works in reversre. Just checking to see if there were new functionality I was not privy to. [URGENT] Assistance Requested in Looking for Dr Francis T. Seow, Harvard Law School Research Fellow
Hi, First, I would like to apologize for the out-of-topic post. I will keep this as short as I possibly could. Does anybody know Dr. Francis T. Seow, the former Solicitor-General from the Republic of Singapore? I want to contact him but can't seem to find his email address or telephone number on the internet. Could you help me? Do you also know how I can contact all the justices of the

More problems with iconnecthere
This may be slight off topic, but perhaps it has relevance: My iconnecthere account no longer works for "inbound" calls through NAT using the standard configuration that they provide on their website. I have sent them a message, but I believe it will be flushed down the toilet by the first-tier support people. When I call my iconnect number, it goes directly to voicemail. There

Questions about modules and namespaces
Hello >From my understanding, modules are not autosearched. So, if I have: include ssh ... then puppet will look for a module names ssh and class named ssh defined in /modules/ssh/init.pp Moreover, if I have: include ssh::global ... then Puppet will for class global defined in /modules/ssh/init.pp or /modules/ssh/global.ss. Is that correct? Or am I leaving out some imports

Documentation conventions
I think some conventions are in order to help with the documentation work. (1) As suggested by someone else earlier, I think we need a clear way to mark areas needing fixes with FIXMEs. (2) Topics under discussion or drafting should indicate such, perhaps at the top of the document, with a reference to the thread. On page comments should have a clearly designated area at the bottom of the

id: cannot find name for group ID
I'm trying to figure this out, but not having any luck... I'm running Ubuntu 6.01.1 LTS, which has Samba 3.0.22 included in the distribution. I've got samba and winbind configured, as well as nssswitch. Active Directory users are able to log into the computer and are authenticated by samba, but when I log in via a console: # su - llama Creating directory '/home/CORP/llama'.

VBR reencoding @128k problem
I did some further investigating into this issue and here's what I found: It appears somewhere between ices0.1.0 and ices 0.2.0 is where the "bug" (for lack of a better term) was introduced that i'm noticing. When I compile ices0.2.0 w/lame 3.89beta, the VBR is *NOT* reencoded, but instead streamed out at full VBR bitrate(s). However, when using ices0.1.0 w/lame 3.89beta, it
