Firewall frustration
Well FWbuilder is NOT easy. The documentation does not match the current GUI. Now the box is locked up. I will have to pull it again, hook it up to a kybd/VGA and reset iptables.... Maybe Shoreline with webmin.... Problem is I want a REAL router/firewall with little work. Both public and private nets have routable addresses. No NATing for me! I just help write the RFC ;) And all the

Manage of firewall.
Hello, I see manage of firewall in CentOS (called security), and seems difficult to manage, not enough powerful. I am searching a middle term between scripts of iptables to manage and Security manager of CentOS. I know FireStarter, another similar? -- Devel in Precio http://www.pas-world.com

IPTables GUIs
Hi, This is semi-OT, but is Centos-related. I'm looking for an IPTables GUI to help us with our expanding network configuration. I know there's plenty out there, but most of them seem to manage the firewall on the computer on which they run, or only handle one firewall at a time. I need one that can easily manage multiple firewalls from some sort of central location/repository, i.e.

Setting up a simple NAT on CentOS 3.5
Well I think this system is back on 3.5. How do I tell? Have not used it in a while... I need a NAT for some quick testing and this box was available. Only a 6gb drive, so I can't install Astaro (which I have licenses for). So is there a simple way to turn on NATing? Should I upgrade to 4.2? This box is behind a firewall, so security risks are not the issue. This time.

blocking outgoing ports with iptables
Hi, I'm using the generic system-config-securitylevel-tui program on a remote server to configure my firewall. So far it's been fairly decent, allowing me to open up ports and whatnot. But I want to start blocking a couple of outgoing ports on my machine. I want to lock it down so the only traffic going in our out of my machine is stuff that I specify. Is there a way to do this

Iptables front-end
Hi all, ?What iptables do you use to manage iptables? ?Or maybe not? Simply curiosity, so I'm coming from openSUSE and in that distro there is a YaST module front-end (YaST firewall). Learning some sad things about the state of IPv6
We have kernel support for IPv6 in Centos, but not stateful firewall support. That requires at least the 2.6.20 kernel, which means Fedora Core 6 or some other Linux distro. None of the various free Linux firewalls have IPv6 support. Supposedly FWBuilder can manage Netfilters for a Linux Kernel, but that seems to be the extent of it. More sad facts as I uncover them.....

Best Firewall Suggestions?
Hi, My customer has a outdated firewall that is also presenting a NAT nightmare for getting the Asterisk server reachable from the internet. What firewalls work good with VOIP? I really want to steer away from any ALG supported firewall. I just want a good firewall that works well with Asterisk. Thanks, David Wathen -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

Firestarter on Centos 5
I am looking into different firewall tools. Well, I am looking to turn my Centos notebook into a NAT box, so that I can plug my corp notebook into its ethernet, and get access through my Centos notebook's wireless connection. (yes the corp notebook has wireless, but they frown on us using it!) I have started with Shorewall via webmin. I suspect that since my main firewall is Astaro, I

iptables module?
I know people must be doing something to manage iptables, but I haven''t been able to find anything yet. ( My google-fu must be weak today. ) What are you using to manage your iptables? -- -- Perfection is just a word I use occasionally with mustard. --Atom Powers--

Execution from ip-up.local
Hi, I'm using Firestarter as my firewall. If I restart the network or my DSL line goes down, I have to manually restart Firestarter. I have sh /etc/firestarter/firestarter.sh stop and then sh /etc/firestarter/firestarter.sh start in my ip-up.local file. I confirmed ip-up.local us being executed by placing an entry in the logs, but it appears firestarter is not or at least not correctly.

Centos firewall/router issue
Good day everyone. Today has been "one of those..." days. So I have a feeling this is just a brain lapse here. At any rate, I am setting up a firewall/router using centos 4.4 (minimal install, yummed up to date). I have in fact enables V4 ip forwarding (by editing /etc/sysctl.conf) and rebooted the system. I use fwbuilder for my rules, and at this point have a next to nothing set of

rsync without reverse dns lookup
Hello, I set up an script witch connects my rsyncd server. But the IPs for rsyncd Server and Client have no DNS Name, and so rsync trys to lookup for a DNS Name for this IPs. This causes a long DNS Timeout! My question: is there a commandline option to disable this "feature"? Or can you give me quick "hack around"? Best regards -- Clemens Gesell <cgesell@astaro.de> |

Traffic shaping on CentOS
I'm deploying a CentOS 7 box as a gateway and I'm trying to figure out how to set up traffic shaping. Historically I've used the Wondershaper script but apparently it's not deprecated in favor of superior queue management. I haven't yet found a packaged solution and I'm wondering what others do to configure this kind of thing. Apparently the new modules are available

Problem with masquerading and bridges
Hello all, I''m somewhat new to networking, and I''m having trouble masquerading connections that are coming over a bridge. The bridge only has a single port for now, but I''m going to add more ports later. I''m basing my configuration on the two-interface quick start guide. I''m using Shorewall 3.0.4 on Ubuntu Dapper. My network looks like this: * The
