Recommended way to set $FACTERLIB?
Is there a recommended way to set $FACTERLIB so that Puppet will be able to access custom facts when running as a Red Hat service? If I export $FACTERLIB=/var/puppet/facts and then run Puppet manually I have no problems, but I''m not sure how I should be setting $FACTERLIB when Puppet is running automatically. Cheers, James

configuring puppet to run custom facts
Hi, I''m following http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PluginsInModules in order to use a custom fact. My modules looks like: # ls manifests/modules/network/ manifests plugins # ls manifests/modules/network/plugins/facter/primaryint.rb manifests/modules/network/plugins/facter/primaryint.rb as is said in doc. Then: Turn on pluginsync and specify factpath, so that the facts

Custom facts for a puppetmasterless environment
I see the instructions for creating custom facter recipes here: http://projects.reductivelabs.com/projects/puppet/wiki/Adding_Facts and in this thread, James Turnbull suggests that Facter might some day support other languages besides ruby: http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users/browse_thread/thread/8c127ae8898d3bcf/c5ca551b77c4eb67?lnk=gst&q=facter+perl#c5ca551b77c4eb67 He writes:

before everything
I have some facter file to distribute before running puppet on the platform. The problem is : how can i send the facter local.rb file so the rest of the .pp file take into account the new facts created ? ex: i have sudopath as a facter fact and one sudoers class that need that sudopath to work. How do you model that ? it seems puppet would have to rerun after the new local.rb is downloaded

puppetmaster built via puppetd

Mutliple custom facts not showing in facter
Hi, I''ve noticed that defining multiple facts in one file is possible, and puppet can make use of them correctly, but when trying to call with facter --puppet they are not shown, do I need something special to make them work as any other single custom fact? Master is running 2.6.7 This is a custom fact with two facts in it: [modules/foobar/lib/facter/foobar.rb ] require

Preferred method for setting customer facts?
I''ve checked out the page on adding custom facts for Facter and I see that there are a number of ways to do this. Is there a preferred method of setting system-wide facts? In this case, I''d like to set a "Location" fact which represents the data centre a server is in. Cheers, James *********************************************************************************

Problem with adding custom facts
Hi I''m trying to add extra facts to facter. The puppetd is running on Debian Etch Amd64 as Xen 3.1 guest. I''ve follow the Wiki on adding the facts. First I used relative path in the manifest and added "factsync=true" in client''s puppetd.conf. And then tested it with "puppetd -vt". But no matter what i tried, this error came: File paths must be fully

Anyone using Puppet to manage Red Hat Network registrations?
Before I start working on it, I''d like to check if anyone is already using Puppet to manage their servers'' RHN subscriptions. We run a local RHN Proxy server and at the moment, I''m using Kickstart to: - Install Facter and Puppet - Install our organisations trusted RHN SSL certificate - Download and install our RHN configuration file - Import GPG keys - Run rhnreg_ks to

Puppet Agent VS User
Hello, Running into a problem when wanting to daemon-ize the agent. It doesnt seems to do anything: - cannot find any daemon process with (ps aux | grep puppet) - the config is not updated after editing some params on the master - /var/log/puppet stay empty... while, when logged as root, it is working without issue with $puppet agent --test. ##Conf Ubuntu 12.04 Puppet 2.7.11 ## Daemon is

Custom fact errors
I''m a newbie attempting to get a custom fact distributed to clients. I''ve followed the instructions at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/AddingFacts and based my first fact on a simple recipe. I''m having at least one problem and possibly more. 1) Puppet/facter fails to load the custom fact, complaining that "non- sh interpreters are not currently

puppetmaster fails to start using dist puppet.conf file
I''m having an issue with the default puppet.conf distributed with puppet 2.6.4 (FreeBSD port). I''ve reproduced the problem with a completely fresh install on a completely fresh OS in a VM. Under these conditions, running puppetmaster with no config is fine, but simply moving the puppet.conf-dist file to puppet.conf causes the following errors on console: Performing sanity
