wiki - vnc -gerald and walsh, update?
To GeraldClark and PjWelsh, I have centos 6 and used your guide to get it going with vnc. First of all thanks for putting that up, so many techs told me I did not have to install a desktop to make it work and they were so wrong. http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server Using centos 6 I found some differences and wanted to post them here to see if anything helps clear it all up. I acutally

Unablce to open VNC
I have vnc working on my server when I am logged into that server. If I run vncviewer, I have a copy of the Desktop. Hwever, if I SSH into the server, I get an error. Due to my lack of experience, I am not sure what the log file means: http://209.204.172.137/misc/vnc_error.txt Could someone tell me what I am missing? Is the VNC setting available for non-hvm DomU''s?
I have been scouring this list''s archives and have consumed any and all how-to guides I could find but am still unsure. All discussion in this list on this issue is around hvm/vti DomU''s. Has anyone been able to attach a vnc client to a vanilla (non-hvm) DomU using the VNC console setting? On an FC5 (2.6.16-1.2080_FC5xen0) kernel deployed on vanilla (non-hvm) hardware,

vncserver does not start gnome-sessioin automatically
I installed RHEL 5.8 x86_64 today. To my surprise, when I connect it using vnc viewer it does not start gnome-session automatically. The last line in .vnc/xstartup is twm& Before I removed RHEL 6.1 a few days ago, vncserver always starts gnome-session every time I open vncviewer. Is that related to RHEL version or vnc-server version? Best Regards, Yawei

SSH + VNC
I am trying to log into a desktop that is running CentOS 4.2 by tennelling VNC through SSH.. The desktop auto-logins a user, then sits there waiting for me to login. On the client side, I fire up SSH tunneling ssh -L 8000:127.0.0.1:5900 The client spits back the error vncviewer: ConnectToTcpAddr: connect: Connection refused Unable to connect to VNC server The server says channel 5: open

Gnome switcher and gnome windows list
Hello, am I the only one experiencing some bugs with the latest git checkout in the gnome switcher and gnome window list ? When I click on one of the workspaces on gnome's switcher the cube doesn't rotate, but the windows disappear. I don't know how to describe it well, but it seems like the 4 faces of the cube in compiz and my 4 workspaces on gnome-switcher are now totally unrelated

vncserver
Hi all, When using the "vncserver :1" and then "vncviewer :1" to see it so far so good. then when I run a program I get the window outline until I move to the position I want and click - how can I just skip that step and lets say have my new program go full screen (in the vnc window). Is that possible and how? THanks, Jerry

Remote Desktop on CentOS 5.3
Does anyone have remote desktop connectivity working in CentOS 5.3? I'm using the Gnome desktop and have configured the Remote Deskop Preferences to "Allow other users to view your desktop" and "Allow other users to control your desktop". vncviwer in listen mode poer number
I am working on the Centos wiki instructions for doing an install via vnc: http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/VncHeadlessInstall CD is all burned and ready to go. I then thought about the viewer settings particularly the port number and firewall rules. When I connect vncviewer to a vncserver it uses port(s) 590n where n is the display number. OK, is that what happens when a server connects

Vncserver not serving up my gnome desktop, just a fancy terminal!
I have the vncserver running on CentOS 4, but when I log in using vncviewer from another box, I don't see my gnome desktop, just a fancy terminal. I suspect I need to edit the ~/.vnc "xstartup file, but what do I add to fix this. On all other distros I have tried, the vncserver serves up my gnome desktop by default. -- Lee Parmeter Emperor, linXos - The Flying Penguin

[PATCH] Add option to switcher plugin for current workspace windows only
I find it very awkward for alt-tab to switch to windows on other desktops, but some people prefer it. Here is an implementation of a setting for it. It adds a new window API, to see if it's on the visible workspace. (I wrote this one) -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Sluggish X session with Cygwin/X and gnome desktop
Hello, I just installed CentOS 4.4 and when I connect to it from my XP machine using Cygwin/X and the gnome desktop I've noticed that after a couple of minutes it slows to a crawl (menus and dialog boxes don't display immediately when I click on them). Accessing the X session from the console does not exhibit this behavior. Just recently, instead of going with the default gnome

vncserver on IPv6
http://www.realvnc.com/products/enterprise/4.1/ipv6.html IPv6 support in VNC Server E4.1.7/P4.1.2 VNC Server E4.1.7 & P4.1.2 are fully IPv6-aware, but is shipped with IPv6 support disabled by default, for security reasons. IPv6 can be enabled by setting "InTransports=IPv6,IPv4" (the default being IPv4 only), either on the command-line when starting vncserver under Unix Ok.

Remote access to domU console using vnc
I have an FC6 dom0 running on a headless server. I want to install a CentOS 4.4 domU with a console accessed using vnc from a remote machine. I *think* I should be able to do this from my understanding of the documentation. I''ve configured a domU to boot from an ISO image to do the CentOS install and run xm create. netstat on dom0 shows there''s a listener on 0.0.0.0:5900, but

Desktop Switcher
Hey Y'all, Does CentOS have a desk top switcher similar to what you find on Fedora? A friend of mine want's to be able to switch between desktops. I've only got Gnome installed on my machine so I don't switch. A search of Google turns up reference to CentOS 4 for desktop switcher but I don't see anything for CentOS 6.3.
